RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the biocompatibility and barrier function of mussel adhesive protein (MAP)-loaded collagen membranes in guided bone regeneration (GBR). METHODS: Eight male New Zealand white rabbits were used. Four circular defects (diameter: 8 mm) were created in the calvarium of each animal. The defects were randomly assigned to 1) a negative control group, 2) a cyanoacrylate (CA)-loaded collagen membrane group (the CA group), 3) a MAP-loaded collagen membrane group (the MAP group), and 4) a group that received a polycaprolactone block with MAP-loaded collagen membrane (the MAP-PCL group). Specimens were harvested at 2 weeks (n=4) and 8 weeks (n=4) postoperatively for observational histology and histometric analysis. RESULTS: In the histologic analysis, MAP was completely absorbed without any byproducts. In contrast, some of the CA adhesive remained, showing an inflammatory reaction, at 8 weeks. In the MAP-PCL group, the MAP-loaded collagen membranes served as a barrier membrane despite their fast degradation in GBR. No significant difference was found in the amount of new bone between the MAP-PCL and MAP groups (1.82±0.86 mm2 and 2.60±0.65 mm2, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The MAP-loaded collagen membrane functioned efficiently in this rabbit calvarial GBR model, with excellent biocompatibility. Further research is needed to assess clinical applications in defect types that are more challenging for GBR than those used in the current model.

RESUMO

In this paper the four indexes of two mussels-Mytilus edulis and Mytilus coruscus were measured. The four indexes were protein, amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids and inorganic elements. The contents of protein and crude fats in Mytilus coruscus were higher than those in Mytilus edulis. The contents of essential amino acids have no difference between the two mussels. Mytilus coruscus is a heavy seafood,as there are much more glutamic acid, glycine and aspartic acid in it. The content of docosahexenoic acid (DHA)in M. coruscus was much more than that of M. edulis. Except for Aluminium and Selenium, the other 12 kinds of elements in M. edulis were higher than those in M. coruscus. The contents of polyunsatu-rated fatty acids(PUFAs) were much more than those of monounsaturated acids (MUFAs)in M. coruscus. There is little difference of the content between PUFAs and MUFAs in M. edulis.

RESUMO

The article first reported the effect of aqueous extract of mytilus edulis (AEME) on isolated uterus of rat and mechanism of action. The result showed that AEME had a contraction effect on rat uterus, both amplitude quantity and frequency were increased. Also AEME potentiated contractions to field stimulation of rat vas deferent. These actions were blocked by alpha - receptor blocking agent phentolaming. However,it were relaxation on ileum and stomach strip of rat. These relaxations were blocked by phentolamine too. The volume of flow were decreased,it was from 47+11 dr/min to 24 + 7 dr/min,( P

RESUMO

Protamex, flavorzyme and neutrase were used for bienzyme hydrolysis of Mytilus edulis.Protamex and flavorzyme were determined as the optimal hydrolases by analysis of hydrolysis effects. After bienzyme hydrolysis, ester forming yeast fermentation was used to prepare seasoner. The effects of fermentation of single or compound strains on the value of FAN were detected by formaldehyde titration method. The results showed that the value of FAN was 0.65% when the conditions of ester forming yeast 1274 were as follows:inoculation volume 5%(v/v),fermentation temperature 28℃ and culture time 72h after bienzyme hydrolysis;the value of FAN was 0.78% when the hydrolytic solution was fermented by compound strains including ester forming yeast 1274 and 1202 under the same fermentation conditions. After fermentation of ester forming yeast, the seasoner gave a full-bodied smell of ester with fermentation flavour.

RESUMO

A comparative study of the collagen of the foot of Lamellidens Sp. and that of the unmodified part of the foot in Mytilus edulis shows marked differences in physical properties, amino acid composition and in the degree of stabilization. But both conform to type I collagen of vertebrates. In these respects, the latter shows agreement with the features characteristic of byssus collagen, which is highly crosslinked, involving dimers and trimers of tyrosine. It is suggested that such differences may reflect the different functions of the organs concerned, the foot of Lamellidens being a locomotary organ of the animal, while the foot of Mytilus edulis is modified for anchorage of the animal. The vertigial part though not morphologically modified shows the essential compositional characteristics of the byssus being a mere remanant of it.
