RESUMO

Objective To analyze the pathogenic characteristics of Chlamydia,Mycoplsma,Neisseria gonorrhoeae,Trichomonas,Candida and Herpes simplex virus in patients with urogenital infections and study the relevant influential factors. Methods Genital secretions of the patients who were suspicious of non gonococcal urethritis(NGU)were collected as samples to detect and cultivated Chlamydia trachomatis(Ct),Ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu),Mhominis(Mh),Neisseria gonorrhoeae(Ng),Candida(Cd),Trichomonies and the type 2 Herpes virus. At the same time, surveys with structured questionnaire were conducted. Results In the 977 detected patients, the rate of positive expression of Ct was 33.67%(329/977),Uu-16.1%(156/977),Mh-7.36%(72/977),N-2.56%(25/977),Cd-4.7%(46/977),Tv-2.87%(28/977),and HBS-2-0.72%(7/977).The rate of co-infections of two or more pathogens(mainly between Ct,Uu,Ng ang Cd)was 10.03(98/977).About 25.85% of the patients in the positive Ct and Uu group were infected without symptom.90% of NGU patients were sex active, aged 18~49 years and most of infections occurred in age group of 30~39 years.Positive rate of Ct,Uu and Cd was higher in females than in males. The infection rate due to ex-marital sexual contact was 65.30% among all the NGU patients.Conclusions(1)The Ct,Uu,Ng and Cd have a higher positive detection rate in the NGU patients in the STD clinic.(2)Co-infection with two or more pathogens are common in the NGU patients.(3)We should pay more attention to the patients with no symptoms.(4)Epidemics and transmission of NGU is largely related with a number of risk factors.

RESUMO

Dried powder extraction: Among the components of the traditional oriental prescription “Ngu linh gia vi”, rhizoma Atractylodis macrocephalae, Polia, Polyporus, rhizoma Alismatis and cortex Cinnamomi were extracted with ethanol 80%; the others were extracted with boiled water. All the extracts were mixed with rhizoma Dioscoreae persimilis powder, then dried in vacuum. The total yield of the dried extract was 7.7% compared with the plant materials. Anti-urolithic effect: In vitro studies showed that the percentages of worn stones were respectively 0.92% (control group), 18.94% (low dose of dried extract group), and 19.97% (high dose of dried extract group).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: STDs are major communicable disease group in Korea. This study was carried out to evaluate the current status of sexually transmitted diseases in Seoul. METHODS: We collected the laboratory data of those who visited 11 Public Health Centers in Seoul for venereal disease examination and analyzed abnormal results from Jan 1, 1993 to Dec 31, 1995. The diagnoses of STDs were made by VDRL quantification, TPHA test, Gram's stain, and culture of urine or urethral discharge. RESULTS: There were total of 10,302 patients. There were 7,836 male cases(76.1%) and 2,466 female cases (23.9%). Mean age was 30.6+/-9.7, and the most common age group was 25-34 yearn of age(42.1%). Diagnoses were as follows ; syphilis 2,036 cases(19.8%), gonorrhea 2,249 cases(21.8%), nongonococcal urethritis 4,973 cases(48.3%), vaginitis 954 cases(9.3%), mixed infection of syphilis and gonorrhea 13 cases(0.1% ), mixed infection of syphilis and NGU 50 cases(0.5%), mixed infection of syphilis and vaginitis 27 cases(0.3%). The proportion of PPNG among gonorrhea was as follows ; 43.4% in 1993, 55.1% in 1994, 43.8% in 1995. There were more WBCs on Gram's staining in gonorrhea cases than in NGU cases. CONCLUSIONS: The STD patients seen in 11 Public Health Centers in Seoul were mainly young men. Common diagnoses were as follows ; NGU, gonorrhea, syphilis, vaginitis. The proportion of PPNG increased at first and then decreased.
