RESUMO

Objective:To explore the current status and influencing factors of medical narrative competence among nurses in Luzhou, offering theoretical insights for improving nurses′ narrative competence. Methods:This study was a cross-sectional survey. From July 2021 to January 2022, using convenience sampling method, 267 nurses from Zhongshan Area of Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, Kangjian Area of Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital Affiliated to Southwest Medical University were investigated by the general information questionnaire, Narrative Competence Scale, Nurses′ Perceived Professional Benefits Questionnaire And Perceived Social Support Scale. Results:The total scores of narrative competence of the 267 nurses was (142.25 ± 19.03), nurses′ perceived professional benefits was (137.16 ± 15.89) and perceived social support was (65.86 ± 10.38). The results of multiple linear regression showed that nurses′ perceived professional benefits and perceived social support were the important factors affecting their narrative ability ( t = 5.09 and 5.95, both P<0.05), which could account for 35.7% of the total variation of narrative competence. Conclusions:Nurses have narrative competence at low level in Luzhou. Managers should pay more attention to nurses who have poor level of perceived professional benefits and perceived social support, so as to keep the nurses′ mental health and improve nurses′ narrative competence by taking corresponding measures.

RESUMO

The research team focused on the deep integration of palliative care and narrative medicine. This paper defined the concept of "pain point", that is medical personnel encounter psychological confusion, vague goals and helpless in the biomedical practice. Based on the definition concept, the paper discussed the clinical practice of narrative medicine by relieving the "pain point" as the "code" of clinical operation, and combining with the case of palliative care consultation. The case in the paper were presented in the form of doctor’s oral text together with explanation and analysis, and then put forward the clinical practice steps of narrative medicine, such as identifying the suffering, establishing relationship and relieving "pain point" with narrative competence, so as to take palliative care field as an example to provide reference for the practice of narrative medicine in other medical fields.

RESUMO

Effective medical practice in the bio-psycho-social medical model calls for the doctor's narrative and communicative skills. The gradual application of narratives in medical practice and research facilitates the combination of narrative methods with medical science. The narrative medicine movement greatly promotes the narrative turn in the research of doctor-patient communication and provides a new perspective in medical humanities education. In the process of doctor-patient communication, the appropriate use of doctors' high narrative competence contributes to effective doctorpatient communication and helps to build a harmonious doctor-patient relationship. In medical education, the teaching strategy of combining classroom teaching with clinical probation teaching should be adopted to cultivate and enhance medical students' medical narrative competence.

RESUMO

1)In the 2008 academic year, we developed a new narrative-based medicine (NBM) curriculum at Sapporo Medical University.
2) The program includes lectures on the concept of NBM, the clinical practice of NBM, and the illness narratives of patients' families, and exercises in narrative competence (significant event analysis, parallel chart, and life story).
3) Although some students had negative attitudes about the program, most students evaluated the course positively. We need to continuously improve the curriculum to develop narrative competence in medical students.

The skills involved in narrative competence allow as to predict the child's further cognitive-linguistic performance. Thus, from a speech and language perspective, it is extremely important to have clinical tools to evaluate such aspect. The present manuscript addresses the design of a clinical instrument to assess the abilities involved in narrative competence. Such abilities comprise those related to the development of canonical narrative structure as well as those related to the expression of content. These abilities are analysed throught an activity of re-telling a story induced from an ad-hoc oral text accompanied with pictures. A form specifically created for systematic qualitative and quantitative analysis was used to collect the data. The materials used in and a preliminary psychometric analysis of a pilot study conducted in 22 normal-language development pre-school children coming from middle-class families in the city of Buenos Aires are discussed. The results show that the instrument is capable of determining which narrative skills are involved in pre-school children and the manner they should be assessed.
