ABSTRACT Argentina is one of the largest consumers of plastic materials in Latin America; the average consumption is 42 kg per capita per year. Mechanical recycling of plastics is a process for recovering plastic materials, and this practice produces recycled plastics substituting virgin materials. Substituting virgin materials with recycling plastics is a common practice that contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This work aims to assess the environmental performance of a case study on plastic waste recycling in Mendoza, Argentina. We applied the open-loop recyclability benefit rate indicator in the plastic waste treatment, which is based on an LCA approach. The indicator results in 22 %, this result indicates a potential environmental saving related to the recycling of the post-consumer plastic waste compared to the production of virgin material (wood) and landfilling of waste in terms of GHG emissions. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis was performed to study the effect of the parameter that considers the lifetime of the products. There is a need to account for the lifetime of the product made from recycled material and the one made from virgin material. The accounting could be determined based on economic aspects, technical aspects, or material quality.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES@#Bispectral index (BIS) can reflect the depth of propofol sedation. This study aims to compare the anesthetic satisfaction, anesthetic dose, and hemodynamic changes between closed-loop target controlled infusion (CLTCI) and open-loop target controlled infusion (OLTCI) during abdominal surgery.@*METHODS@#From December 2016 to December 2018, 70 patients undergoing abdominal surgery under general anesthesia were selected in Beijing Hospital, including 51 males and 19 females, at the age from 49 to 65 years old. They were classified as grade I-II by the American Society of anesthesiologists (ASA) and were randomly divided into the CLTCI group and the OLTCI group (@*RESULTS@#In the induction stage, the percentage of adequate anesthesia time in the CLTCI group was higher than that in the OLTCI group, and the percentage of deep anesthesia time in the CLTCI group was significantly lower than that in the OLTCI group (both @*CONCLUSIONS@#Compared with propofol OLTCI, anesthesia with propofol CLTCI under BIS guidance can maintain a more appropriate depth of anesthesia sedation and more stable hemodynamics.

RESUMO

Objective To evaluate and compare the effectiveness of propofol-remifentanil closed-loop and open-loop anesthesia in gynecological laparoscopic operation under bispectral index (BIS) monitoring. Methods Forty female patients undergoing elective gynecological laparoscopic operation were recruited and randomly divided into closed-loop (group Ⅰ) and open-loop (group Ⅱ) groups.During anesthesia maintenance, the closed-loop group was administered with a BIS-feedback system to regulate the target effect-site concentration;whereas, the open-loop group was administered the target effect-site concentration according BIS value manually. The variation of non-invasive mean arterial pressure (MAP),heart rate (HR),SpO2,BIS,extubation time, consumption of propofol and remifentanil,Ramsay index, and subjective comfort grade were recorded at the selected time points. Results The extubation time in group Ⅰ was shorter than in group Ⅱ.The total dosage of propofol administered in group Ⅰ was less than that in group Ⅱ,but there was no significant difference in the total consumption of remifentanil.HR in group Ⅰ was steadier than in group Ⅱ.However, the MAP and Ramsay index were similar in both the groups. The subjective comfort grade in group Ⅰ was higher than in group Ⅱ.Conclusion The use of propofol-remifentanil closed-loop system by BIS-feedback anesthesia is safer, more controllable, with higher degree of satisfaction and sparing side-effects,we therefore recommend it during gynecological laparoscopic operations.

RESUMO

The establishment of open-loop psychiatric ward is an innovation for mental disease treatment, while new legal and ethical issues become evident. For instance, psychiatric patients with no guardians or agents can not normally sign the informed consent form at hospitalization. It is extremely difficult to make a definite diagnosis in some cases.Informed consent form is refused by certain guardians due to the misunderstanding of psychiatric diseases. This paper explores those legal and ethical issues arising in the medical treatment in open-loop psychiatric ward, and comes up with relevant countermeasures.
