ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to apply a protocol based on the Animal Welfare Indicators (AWIN) protocols for small ruminants in Brazilian Northeast farms to evaluate the welfare of meat goat, comparing animals kept on semi-intensive (S) and extensive (E) farms. Fifteen farms located in the Metropolitan Region of Quixadá and Quixeramobim, Ceará, Brazilian Northeast, were recruited. Assessments were performed at group and individual level. Significant differences between S and E farms was set at P<0.05 to all tests. At group level, there was a significant difference between groups, with more goats from E farms affected by heat stress and more animals from S farms presenting oblivion. Resource-based indicators, type of drinkers and access to shelter, differed significantly between S and E systems, with goats on S farms allocated in places with access to water more frequently during night period and protected from wind. Type of facility was more complex for animals on S farms (n=2) than on all E farms due to internal divisions, with S farms presenting feeders, drinking fountains, salt shakers, and slatted or cemented floor. At individual level, abscess and ocular discharge were more frequently observed on S farms and ears lesions were more frequent on E farms, probably due to distinct management of goats. Similarities between results showed that farmers in both production systems faced problems related to heat stress, lack of forage and health issues.

Objective@#To investigate the prevalence and related risk factors of prostate diseases in traffic policemen.@*Methods@#A total of 848 traffic policemen who took part in the physical examination among August and September in 2016 were selected as research subjects, and a questionnaire survey was conducted to collect their information including smoking, alcohol drinking, biological and physiological indicators, as well as prostate disease etc. The relationship between the prevalence of prostate diseases and related risk factors was analyzed by Non-conditional Logistic Regression.@*Results@#The total prostate disease prevalence rate was 40.2% in the study subjects, and there is statistical significance (P<0.05) of differences between prostate disease group and non disease group in age, work age, smoking, drinking and field work. Single factor analysis showed that age, work age, smoking, and field work are independent risk factors of prostate disease (P<0.05) . Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that increasing age (OR 1.03) , smoking (OR 1.92) and field work time (OR 1.47) significantly increased the risk of prostate disease in male police after age, smoking, drinking, BMI, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, blood lipids and other indicators were adjusted.@*Conclusion@#age, smoking and field work time are risk factors of prostate diseases in the traffic police. There is great significance in publicizing the harmful effects of smoking and reducing the duration of field work.

RESUMO

Objective To study the physiological indicators and arterial blood gas values, and create a reliable data for researchers using beagle dogs. Methods Beagle were sampled before and after Zoletil anesthesia (10 mg/kg) via intramuscular injection. Then aterial blood gas was detected by blood gas analyzer. Then the physiological indicators, including heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature were measured via large animal ECG.Results For blood gas values, the pH value decreased significantly (P < 0.01).pCO2 increased significantly and pO2 decreased significantly, the differences were significantly (P < 0.05).In contrast, levels of Lac and HCO3-remained unaltered, indicating a typical respiratory acidosis. For physiological indicators, blood pressure increased slightly, but not significant. The heart rate increased significantly (P < 0.01) and body temperature decreased significantly (P < 0.01).There was no difference between sexes. Conclusion Zoletil anesthesia causes respiratory arrest and respiratory congestion, which further induced respiratory acidosis.Meanwhile, anesthesia also results in elevated heart rhythm and lower body temperature. These data indicate that warming and airway clear are necessary during anesthesia in Beagles. Moreover,it should be considered about the effects of anaesthetics when comparing differents in animals before and after treatment.
