Objective To explore the correlation between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and Behcet's disease(BD)activity.Methods A total of 103 BD patients were divided into the low activity group(0-4,61 cases)and the high activity group(5-11,42 cases)according to electronic medical record-based disease activity index(EMRAI)score.The white blood cell(WBC),neutrophil(NEU),lymphocyte(LY),platelet(PLT),red blood cell(RBC),hemoglobin(Hb),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),C-reactive protein(CRP),IgG,IgA,IgM,complement C3 and C4 were detected.NLR and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)were calculated.The correlation between NLR,PLR and ESR,CRP,EMRAI were analyzed.Logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of BD disease activity.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was drawn to evaluate the effectiveness of NLR in judging BD disease activity.Results WBC,NEU,PLT,ESR,CRP,NLR,PLR,complement C3 and C4 in patients were higher in the high activity group than those in the low activity group(P<0.05),and there were no significant differences in other indexes(P>0.05).NLR was positively correlated with ESR,CRP and EMRAI in the whole group,while PLR was positively correlated with ESR,CRP and EMRAI in the whole group(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that high NLR was a risk factor for BD disease activity(OR=1.511,95%CI:1.080-2.113,P<0.05).ROC curve analysis showed that the area under the curve(AUC)of NLR in evaluating BD disease activity was 0.706(95%CI:0.603-0.809).Conclusion NLR is effective in judging the disease activity of BD patients,and can be used as a biological index to evaluate the disease activity of BD.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been associated with a wide range of opportunistic bacterial and fungal infections. Several cases of Mucormycosis in people with COVID-19 have been increasingly reported world-wide, in particular from India. The primary reason that appears to be facilitating Mucorales spores to germinate in people with COVID-19 is an ideal environment of low oxygen (hypoxia), high glucose (diabetes, new onset hyperglycemia, steroid-induced hyperglycemia). Methods: Secondary data was obtained from District health office Wardha. We took Mucormycosis related data for May 2021 to August 2021. A Secondary data analysis was done as an age wise distribution, Sex wise distribution, classification of Mucormycosis and case load in Wardha district. Results: Total cases (overall) was about 132. 91% cases are totally recovered. In overall cases, 106 males and 26 females were affected due to Mucormycosis. Out of 132 cases, 128 cases were of Rhino cerebral type of Mucormycosis. 48% cases of Mucormycosis were from 45 to 60 years old patients.127 cases of Mucormycosis were related with COVID history and only 5 cases of Mucormycosis were not related with COVID history. 53% cases were needed oxygen support prior onset of case. Conclusions: A multidisciplinary strategy should incorporate early diagnosis, antifungal therapy, any necessary surgical consultation and treatment, as well as reversal of the underlying illness. Identification of individuals at risk, strict glycaemic control and avoidance of unnecessary corticosteroid in non-severe COVID-19 cases (normal oxygen saturation on room air) can help in preventing this complication.

Background: Enquiry into unnatural deaths with all its manners being, suicidal, accidental or homicidal depends on circumstantial evidences for acceptable judgment in court of law. Objectives were to study socio-demographic characteristics of the study and to find out influencing factors, if any, behind these sudden, suspicious, undesirable deaths.Methods: A record-based, descriptive study with cross-sectional design was conducted for first six months of 2017 in NRS medical college hospital among 1603 unnatural deaths undergone police inquest. Besides the records obtained from medical record section, findings were corroborated from mortuary. Data were analyzed in SPSS 22.0 and Epi Info 7.0.Results: Mean age of the deceased was 37.18±17.42 years. Regarding cause of injury, more than 1/3rd (36.6%) was attributed to poisoning, followed by burn injury (24.8%), road traffic accidents (22.8%), fall from height (6.9%) and others the rest. Majority (68.3%) died within twenty hours of reaching the health care facility. More than half of the deceased committed suicide followed by accident and suicide the least. Binary logistic regression revealed, unnatural deaths inflicted by selves or others, i.e. suicide or homicide respectively, had statistically significant (p<0.05) association to productive age, urban residence, burn and RTA, longer survival and conservative nature of management.Conclusions: As suicide was found to comprise lion share of unnatural deaths, development and implementation of addressing the issue at all the levels, starting from individual to community is the need of the hour.

Introduction: It is widely acknowledged that congenital anomalies heavily contribute to infant morbidity and mortality worldwide, with an estimated 9 million infants (7% of all births) born annually having a serious congenital anomaly that result in death or lifelong disability. The objective of our study was to estimate the frequency of congenital anomalies at the Gulf Medical College Hospital and Research Center, Ajman and to estimate the proportion of births with congenital anomalies per 1,000 live births. Materials and Methods: It was a Hospital-Record based descriptive study of the 1,222 consecutive live births from December 2007 to June 2008. Results: There were 84 cases of congenital anomalies among the 1,222 live births; the rate of anomalous births was 68.7 per 1,000 live births or 6.9%. Anomalies of the genitourinary system (40.5%) were the most common, followed by musculoskeletal (28.6%) and cardiovascular (10.7%). Gastrointestinal, chromosomal and multiple system anomalies accounted for 3.6% each and miscellaneous anomalies were seen in 7.1%. Central Nervous system (2.4%) anomalies were the least. Congenital hydrocele (19.0%) was seen to have the highest frequency amongst all recorded anomalies, followed by Talipes or Clubfoot (14.3%). 9.3% of the male and 4.3% of the female population of live births had a congenital anomaly. Birth Weight (p=0.005) and Gender (p=0.001) were found to have significant association with the frequency of birth defects. Maternal Age, gravidity, parity, previous abortions, VDRL and Hepatitis B status, Gestational Diabetes, Pregnancy Induced Hypertension, gestational age, maternal and infant blood group, nationality and consanguinity showed no statistically significant association with congenital anomalies. Conclusion: The proportion of congenital anomalies found in our study is alarmingly high and emphasizes the need for more accessible nationwide screening, counseling and surveillance systems.
