RESUMO

Japan has abundant hot springs resources that have been empirically used for medical treatment and recreation for people with various diseases or injuries. In 1926, the University of Tokyo inaugurated the Department of Physical Medicine for the scientific study of the effects of hot springs on the human body and mind. Thereafter, balneological research institutes or spa hospitals were established that were affiliated with six national universities; Kyushu, Hokkaido, Okayama, Tohoku, Kagoshima and Gunma had been established by 1951. Although these balneological institutes, including the University of Tokyo, greatly advanced the basic and clinical research on the therapeutic effects of hot springs, they all were either closed or integrated into the main hospital of the university between 1994 and 2018, owing both to government reforms to national universities and decreased government financial support. A brief history of each institute and several titles of published research studies performed there are provided in this article.   The closing of these research institutes is regrettable; however, balneological research is today an important field that contributes to maintenance and promotion of health for the sharply rising number of aged people in Japan. It is expected that a member of the Japanese Society of Balneology, Climatology and Physical Medicine will further develop balneological research using advanced scientific technologies, based on the results achieved in the seven historical institutes mentioned above.

The central objective is to contribute to consideration of psychosocial aspects in the management of people within the framework of personal satisfaction with well-being and organizational commitment (OC). The assumption is that the links change administrative and psychosocial meaning of quality of life at work (QLW). The sample is composed of 270 workers, from 1.550, in a Technological Research Institute. Statistical tests used ANOVA, LSD and Pearson correlation. The results indicated relationships between vectors QLW versus OC versus type of contract. The most significant were: 1) positive associations between satisfaction with the quality of life at work-QWL and affective commitment especially, notably Image (0.55) and camaraderie (0.51), with no negative correlations; 2) significant statistical differences were found between the collaborators with differentiated work contracts, with fairly strong degree of significance in all dimensions of the instrument: satisfaction with the quality of life at work showed significant variability in 35 of 45 variables, especially in people management processes, health care and cleaning. The variable quality of the meals (average 8.16) and contracts form (8.56) showed a big positive difference to the formal workers (CLT) and variables as camaraderie (7.48) were the highest among the flexible workers; instrumental commitment appears with more intensity between outsourced; 3) Trust presented strong evidence on the results of managing multi-contractual teams. It can be concluded that for this study, the variables of quality of life and commitment have positive relations with significant variations from the type of employment contract.
