Objective: to examine postgraduate nursing students' knowledge of research misconduct. Method: this exploratory, qualitative, descriptive study, guided by the criteria of the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research: a synthesis of recommendations, considered 40 master's and doctoral students at a public university in southern Brazil. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, in October 2020, using a synchronous application, and treated by textual discourse analysis. The study was approved by the research ethics committee. Results: two categories emerged: "Scientific integrity versus misconduct: determining factors" and "Types and definitions of misconduct". Conclusion: postgraduate students have cohesive knowledge of the severity of inappropriate behavior in scientific research and of the harmful consequences of such conduct, contemplating an abstract domain when related to questions of morality and integrity and their absolute inversion.

ABSTRACT The results of the documentary study that aimed to interpret the trajectories of critical social and environmental thought in the theses of the Master's Degree in Sustainable Development and Environment at the University of Manizales are presented. The methodology used was qualitative with an interpretative scope, for which the systematic literature review and categorical analysis were used as methodological resources; the phases of the research were the exploration and documentary analysis of 76 theses developed between 2007 to 2018; with an organization in two categories: social rationality and environmental rationality. Regarding social rationality, an approach to human development was found from the position of researchers for the critical examination of themselves and their own traditions, the ability to think from diversity and plurality and the need to understand the sufferings of others. And in environmental rationality, researchers show their position around substantive, theoretical, technical and cultural rationality to identify and reduce environmental problems. The line of disciplinary logical thought was identical for later studies.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the publication rate of abstracts presented by Korean investigators at national and international radiological meetings, and to identify predictive factors of publication. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Abstracts presented at the annual meetings of the Korean Radiological Society (KRS), and abstracts presented by Korean investigators at the annual meetings of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and European Congress of Radiology (ECR) from 2001 to 2002 were searched for subsequent publication, using PubMed and the Korean Medical Database. The following variables were evaluated. 1) The overall publication rate; 2) the publication rates according to the radiological subspecialty, presentation type (oral or poster), sample size ( 50), study design (prospective or retrospective), statistical analysis (present or absent), and study outcome (positive or negative); 3) the time to publication; 4) the journal where the study was published; 5) consistency between the abstract and the final publication. RESULTS: Of 1,097 abstracts, 301 (27.4%) were subsequently published, at an average of 15.8 +/- 13.8 months after presentation in 48 journals. The publication rates for studies presented at the RSNA (35.4%) and ECR (50.5%) conferences were significantly higher than that for the KRS conference (23.6%, p < 0.05). Vascular/interventional radiology studies had the highest publication rate (33.1%), whereas musculoskeletal radiology studies had the lowest publication rate (17.1%). Other factors associated with subsequent publication were prospective design, use of statistical testing, and a positive study outcome. CONCLUSION: The publication rate is significantly lower for the KRS (23.6%) meeting abstracts as compared to those of the RSNA (35.4%) and ECR (50.5%). Prospective design, use of statistical testing, and positive study outcome have a statistically significant effect on the publication rate.

RESUMO

Scientific writing and publication marks the endpoint of research that has been performed, completed, peer reviewed and accepted, and complements teaching and training, clinical service and patient care. Writing has numerous benefits, one of the most important ones being the inherent training undertaken to better appreciate and evaluate the published work of others. Effective scientific writing is an important component of a radiologist’s practice, and should be cultivated at an early stage of the career.
