RESUMO

Objective@#To evaluate the clinical efficacy of invisible orthodontic appliances without brackets for the distal movement of maxillary molars to improve the ability of orthodontists to predict treatment outcomes.@*Methods@#Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, Wanfang Database, CNKI Database, and VIP Database were searched for studies investigating the efficacy of invisible orthodontic appliances for distal movement of maxillary molars in adult patients and published from database inception to August 1, 2023. A total of three researchers screened the studies and evaluated their quality and conducted a meta-analysis of those that met quality standards.@*Results@#This study included 13 pre- and postcontrol trials with a total sample size of 281 patients. The meta-analysis revealed no significant differences in the sagittal or vertical parameters of the jawbone after treatment when compared with those before treatment (P>0.05). The displacement of the first molar was MD=-2.34, 95% CI (-2.83, -1.85); the displacement was MD=-0.95, 95% CI (-1.34, -0.56); and the inclination was MD=-2.51, 95% CI (-3.56, -1.46). There was a statistically significant difference in the change in sagittal, vertical, and axial tilt of the first molar before and after treatment. After treatment, the average adduction distance of the incisors was MD=-0.82, 95% CI (-1.54, -0.09), and the decrease in lip inclination was MD=-1.61, 95% CI (-2.86, -0.36); these values were significantly different from those before treatment (P<0.05).@*Conclusion@#Invisible orthodontic appliances can effectively move the upper molars in a distal direction and control the vertical position of the molars. When the molars move further away, there is some degree of compression and distal tilt movement, which is beneficial for patients with high angles. The sagittal movement of incisors is beneficial for improving the patient's profile.

RESUMO

The cognition and attitude of scientific research ethics consciousness affect the willingness and degree of individual researchers to follow research ethics norms. This study investigated the awareness, access and training needs of Chinese medical researchers (n=11 164) on the knowledge of scientific research ethics. The survey found that more than 50.0% of people were aware of the "golden rice incident" and "skull transplantation"; 80.0% of people were knew of Operational Quideline for the Ethic Review of Biomedical Research Involving Human Subject; 90.0% said that "respecting people" and "not harming" were the basic ethical principles, but 42.8% and 75.1% chose "beneficial" and "fair" respectively; more than 60.0% of people have acquired scientific research ethics knowledge through "self-study", "special training organized by units" or "words and deeds taught by mentors or colleagues", but still 30.0% have not participated in scientific research ethics lectures in recent three years; In terms of training needs, more than 50.0% chose "ethical norms for research and application", followed by "frontier ethical issues" (41.0%) and "ethical review" (36.7%). Based on this, this paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the content and form of scientific research ethics education and training in China.

RESUMO

Based on the data of a national sampling survey, this paper described and analyzed the understanding, attitude, behavior, and their differences and influencing factors of Chinese medical researchers on ethical review of biomedical research involving human subject. The survey found that researchers with master’s degree or below, working in scientific research institutes or universities, no overseas experience, living in the central region and not serving as committee members have relatively poor acquaintance of "ethical review" ; researchers with the characteristics of male, the younger age, living in the western region, knowing less about "ethical review" , agree more with the view that "ethical review consumes too much time and energy" ; researchers who serve as members of the ethics committee are more likely to participate in scientific research projects that have not passed the ethical review process. Therefore, recommendations are put forward: comprehensively popularizing the training of ethical review, focusing on strengthening the vulnerable groups and regions, strictly implementing ethical review laws and regulations, and strengthening evaluation and supervision, so as to improve the service quality and efficiency of ethical review in multiple directions.

RESUMO

Based on the sampling survey data of 11 164 medical researchers in China, this paper analyzed the understanding, attitude and compliance of medical researchers on scientific research ethics in China. The survey found that although most medical researchers claim to have more understanding of scientific research ethics, the level of understanding of scientific research ethics is not optimistic; the channels to scientific research ethics knowledge are diversified, but the standardized training channels are insufficient; most researchers held the positive attitude toward following the ethical norms, but those male, youth under 35, with senior professional titles, or from northeast China held negative attitude relatively; more than half of the researchers claimed that the supervision of research ethics in China was basically in place, but some people said that the violation of scientific research ethics was common, and some researchers reported that there was a phenomenon of "direct seal consent and reply" in ethical review. Compared with medical institutions, enterprises and universities are the weak links of scientific research ethics training, education and review. Based on the above actuality, it puts forward policy suggestions to strengthen the scientific research ethics training and ethics review requirements.

RESUMO

Background: E-resources are one of the major sources of scientific information which provides the user with more precise and quick information. The completeness and quality of information accessible on electronic resources makes it dependable, reliable sources of information and knowledge production in the academic community. Information accessibility is pivotal in the health research environment as it helps in quick and effective response to challenges and complexities as they arise. However, the level of knowledge possessed by medical researchers in Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) is important for teaching, learning and research. Hence, this study evaluated knowledge and use of e-resources by medical researchers in LASUCOM. Methods: The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population is 400 postgraduate students (MPH, resident doctors) and research scholars. The sample size is 200, representing 50% of the total population. Data were collected with the use of a structured questionnaire on knowledge and use of e-resources by the respondents. Frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, were used reporting the data. Results: The results revealed the knowledge of medical researchers about electronic resources including journals (91.8%), books (89.4%), theses/dissertations (82.3%). Also, electronic resources were used for the purpose of obtaining current information (78.8%) and for academic /study purposes (78.8%). PubMed/MEDLINE (96.5%), PubMed Central (92.9%), African Journals Online (92.9%) were the most preferred electronic resources used by postgraduate and medical researchers in LASUCOM. Conclusion: The study concluded that librarians should be trained to support researchers in the research process. The study recommended that librarians should create awareness about electronic resources available and accessible in the library. Also, the library should provide adequate user education on database interface usage and optimal search skill techniques for retrieval of relevant information in the Medical Library.

RESUMO

To reduce the burden of researchers, Article 32 of the Measures for Ethical Review of Life Sciences and Medical Research Involving Human issued in February 2023 proposed that the review could be exempted. Normative exemption from review can not only relieve the burden of researchers, but also reduce the work pressure of the ethics committee, and devote limited time and energy to the review and supervision of high-risk research. This paper analyzed the four criteria for exemption from review first, and then summarized the situation of exemption from ethics review in the International Ethical Guidelines for Health-related Research Involving Humans and in the United States. In view of the fact that there are no relevant regulations on exemption from ethics review, though some medical and health institutions have implemented exemption from ethics review for some studies, the ethics committee often lacks standard operating procedures, corresponding documents, and experience for exemption from ethics review, researchers lack training for exemption from ethics review, and institutions have no supporting measures for exemption from review. To effectively implement the exemption from review, this paper proposed the following suggestions:developing standard operating procedures for exemption from review, and clarifying the review process, which can be simplified to secretary reviews, with senior secretaries or office directors judging whether they meet the exemption criteria, and the chairman reviewing and signing to convey the review decision. Refining the criteria that meet the exemption from ethics review, and providing cases and explanations as necessary, which will help researchers accurately understand the connotation of each criterion, and also provide reference for researchers to make their own preliminary judgments. Strengthening the training of researchers’ exemption from review criteria. The study should obtain the project proposal first, and provide scientific demonstration opinions. To explore the implementation of continuing review, institutions should accelerate the standardized construction of biological sample banks and databases to ensure the provision of compliant sources of biological samples and information data. Exemption from ethics review should not be abused, and the relationship between reducing the burden on researchers and ensuring the quality of ethical review should be balanced.

RESUMO

Strengthening the capacity building of clinical researchers is an important way to achieve high-quality clinical research, ethics training is an important part of it. However, laws and regulations do not specify the requirements for ethical training, many researchers’ cognition of ethics often remain in the form of "passing ethical review", and the content of ethical training often lacks ethical principles, ethical considerations and choices, etc. In view of this, this paper proposed to build a clinical research ethics training system based on the researchers’ ethical decision ability, design and implement ethical concepts, ethical principles grasp, and ethical decision practices from each link of the whole process ethical review, organically integrate them into the training system of clinical research institutions, and promote the conscious infiltration of bioethical awareness that focused on the subjects’ health rights and interests to internalize into the behavior of researchers, accumulate to the ethical decision ability of researchers.

RESUMO

This text discusses the Critical Collaborative Research known in Brazil as PCCol Pesquisa Crítica de Colaboração - which is a practical-theoretical approach used in the development of investigations that focus on understanding and often challenging knowledge production and actions so as to promote de organization of decolonial-and-inclusive schools. Standing on Marxian, Vygotskian and Freirean underpinnings, the text was written from the recordings of two classes delivered by the authors in a Graduate Course called Critical Research Methodologies, with participation of some guest professors, such as Maria Cecilia Camargo Magalhães, who also authors this paper. The text is organized from the speeches of the authors on two occasions in which they collaboratively delivered lessons about PCCol, as well as the questions and interventions from the other course participants. The writing procedure interweaves speeches, treated as data, and their analyses, treated as the actual discussion of some of the concepts that base the Research Methodology itself, and that include relational and transformational agency, the Freirean notion of data production from the South rather than the North, professional practice that is personal and collectively responsive, but more specifically, we will discuss the role played by language for the implementation of collaborative interactions, as well as how this type of language is organized.

Objective:To build a performance appraisal system for full-time researchers in specialized children′s hospitals, so as to mobilize their enthusiasm and improve their efficiency of scientific and technological output. Methods:Based on structure-process-result model, the library of indexes was initialized by such means as literature review and talent performance appraisal management experiences. From November 2020 to March 2021, Delphi method was adopted to finalize the appraisal indexes and weight of each index, while the quantifiable standards of the indexes were formulated by brainstorming, hence establishing the performance appraisal model index system for these researchers. Using both the new model and the original performance appraisal system of the hospital respectively, five full-time research staffs of research-oriented children′s hospital were selected for an empirical research on performance appraisal. Results:Fifteen experts carried out two rounds of Delphi research, finalizing a performance appraisal model for these researchers. The model comprises 3 level-1 indexes, 8 level-2 indexes and 23 level-3 indexes. Among them, the weight of scientific research output, scientific research process and scientific research investment of level-1 indexes were 0.507, 0.267 and 0.226, respectively. Empirical research showed that compared with the original appraisal indexes, the results of the new performance appraisal model were more targeted, enabling the research team to identify setbacks. Conclusions:The indexes set in the model built in this study prove more scientific, objective, and more reasonable in weight assignment. Such indexes can positively motivate and encourage the researchers, promoting the clinical-basic research integration, as well as the disciplinary development and research talent cultivation of the hospital.
