RESUMO

To investigate the effect of captopril on the dentin bonding durability of self-etch adhesive. Different concentrations of captopril ethanol solutions or captopril ethanol/water solutions were prepared to pretreat dentin as primer for the self-etch adhesives. The surface morphology of the dentin was observed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the morphology analysis, the pretreatment condition was selected and two self-etch adhesives were employed to evaluate the improvement effect of the captopril pretreatment on the dentin bonding durability. : SEM showed that the pretreatment of captopril ethanol solutions and captopril ethanol/water solutions were able to remove the smear lay and partially expose collagen matrix. According to the SEM results, the pretreating condition of captopril ethanol/water solution with the pretreating time of was selected for further dentin bonding study. For Clearfil SEBOND system, the immediate bonding strength increased from to  (0.05]. For Clearfil S BOND system, there was no significant difference in the immediate bonding strength between the experimental group [(4.07) MPa] and the control group[(4.11) MPa]. But after one-year aging, the bonding strength of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group <0.05]. : The pretreatment with captopril ethanol/water solution increases the dentin bonding strength of the self-etch adhesive systems and also improves the bonding durability.

RESUMO

@#Resin Bonded Fixed Partial Denture (RBPFD) is a popular treatment for tooth preservation. Mechanical retention is a problem for RBFPD, where debonding is the main cause of failure. RBFPD preparation is minimal invasive. It removes undercut and tooth structure that supports retention so that single insertion guide can be achieved. This preparation was achieved by using surveyor on diagnostic cast, but there was a concern how to copy the surveyed cast to intraoral. Resin template method as a preparation guide was useful to avoid excessive tooth removal. RBFPD design was marked by using pencil on the diagnostic cast. The cast was surveyed to get the preparation designed and prepared by using milling device surveyor and burs. The template was made on the cast. Separator was applied and resin template was built along the margin until the occlusal line angle. The abutment teeth were etched and bonded. Bonding procedure was done on template. The template was placed on the teeth and polimerized. Abutment teeth preparation were done according to the cast with the bur contact simultaneously with the template’s margin and finishing line. Resin template has better accuration and adaptation, easier made and efficient, also prevent excessive tooth removal and control the preparation, mechanical retention can be achieved for RBFPD restoration longevity. Resin template is useful because preparation can be transfered from diagnostic cast to intraoral accurately.

RESUMO

@#Dental caries and trauma are the most common oral diseases in children, which could result in defects of the teeth or detention. Maintenance of the primary dentition in a nonpathologic condition is important for oral health, craniofacial development, and the overall well-being of the children. In contemporary dentistry, primary anterior teeth defects are mainly treated with drugs, restorative treatments, or both. Restorative treatment is the most preferred method and includes direct restoration, full coronal restoration, post-and-core crowns, etc. This article reviews the available information regarding a variety of restorative treatments for primary incisor defects, including their backgrounds, clinical indications, clinical pathways, and related studies. The literature review shows that intraconal direct restoration is widely used on single surfaces. There are many kinds of full coronal restorations, and each has its own advantages. Pediatric resin-bonded strip crowns and zirconia crowns are the most popular and have excellent aesthetics. The use of post-and-core crowns for primary incisors is controversial. The absorbable post may be the next research hotspot. Therefore, treatment of severely destroyed primary incisors poses a challenge for pediatric dentists, as three important considerations must be kept in mind: children′s behavioral management, preservation of the tooth structure and parental satisfaction.

ABSTRACT: There are several therapeutic alternatives for the rehabilitation of absent permanent teeth, but these alternatives are limited when the piece has an im-portant aesthetic component and must be performed in developing patients. Such is the case of patients with cleft palate, in which it is essential to use a highly es-thetic material and to rehabilitate edentulous spaces, usually an incisor, once the orthodontic treatment is completed and as a temporary solution in waiting of a de-finitive rehabilitation in these situations, restorative materials reinforced with poly-ethylene fibers are useful. In this case, a reinforced tape of polyethylene fiber was used as a temporary replacement bridge of two anterior teeth in a patient with a diagnosis of cleft lip and unilateral palate as an esthetic, non-invasive and temporary solution until his grow for a definitive rehabilitation.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Conventional resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) are usually made with a two-retainer design. Unlike conventional RBFPDs, cantilever resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (Cantilever RBFPDs) are, for their part, made with a single-retainer design. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of tooth surface preparation on the bond strength of zirconia cantilever single-retainer RBFPDs. The objective is to evaluate the shear bond strength of these single-retainer RBFPDs bonded on 3 different amount of tooth surface preparation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty extracted bovine incisors were categorized to 3 groups (n=10), with different amounts of tooth surface preparations. Teeth were restored with single-retainer RBFPDs with different retainer surfaces: large retainer of 32 mm²; medium retainer of 22 mm²; no retainer and only a proximal connecting box of 12 mm². All RBFPDs were made of zirconia and were bonded using an adhesive system without adhesive capacity. Shear forces were applied to these restorations until debonding. RESULTS: Mean shear bond strength values for the groups I, II, and II were 2.39±0.53 MPa, 3.13±0.69 MPa, and 5.40±0.96 MPa, respectively. Statistical analyses were performed using a one-way ANOVA test with Bonferroni post-hoc test, at a significance level of 0.001. Failure modes were observed and showed a 100% adhesive fracture. CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that the preparation of large tooth surface preparation might be irrelevant. For zirconia single-retainer RBFPD, only the preparation of a proximal connecting box seems to be a reliable and minimally invasive approach. The differences are statistically significant.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This laboratory study assessed the effect of different dentin cleaning procedures on shear bond strength of resin cements for recementing prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 4 × 4 flat surface was prepared on the labial surface of 52 maxillary central incisors. Metal frames (4 × 4 × 1.5 mm) were cast with nickel-chromium alloy. All specimens were randomly divided into 2 groups to be cemented with either Panavia F2.0 (P) or RelyX Ultimate (U) cement. The initial shear bond strength was recorded by Universal Testing Machine at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. Debonded specimens were randomly allocated into 2 subgroups (n = 13) according to the dentin cleaning procedures for recementation. The residual cement on bonded dentin surfaces was eliminated with either pumice slurry (p) or tungsten carbide bur (c). The restorations were rebonded with the same cement and were subjected to shear test. Data failed the normality test (P < .05), thus were analyzed with Mann Whitney U-test, Wilcoxon signed rank test, and two-way ANOVA after logarithmic transformation (α = .05). RESULTS: The initial shear bond strength of group P was significantly higher than group U (P = .001). Pc and Uc groups presented higher bond strength after recementation compared to the initial bond strength. However, it was significant only in Pc group (P = .034). CONCLUSION: The specimens recemented with Panavia F2.0 provided higher bond strength than RelyX Ultimate cement. Moreover, a tungsten carbide bur was a more efficient method in removing the residual resin cement and increased the bond strength of Panavia F2.0 cement after recementation.

RESUMO

In the case of single tooth replacement, a fixed prosthesis or a dental implant is the treatment option commonly selected as first choice. However, any amount of sound tooth structure should be removed to prepare the abutment teeth for full coverage retainer. The adjacent tooth damage can be avoided placing a dental implant. However, depending on the patient's oral condition and any other circumstances, it may be impossible or delayed. In this case resin bonded fixed partial denture was selected as an alternative that can restore single tooth loss without much tooth structure removal to the young patients and the patients with gingival recession. We report these patients were satisfied with esthetic and function.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of various types of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) after artificial aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty models with missing first molar were fabricated using artificial resin teeth and were divided into four groups: Group A, conventional RBFPDs design; Group B, modified RBFPDs design; Group C, assembled 3-piece RBFPDs design; and Group D, assembled 3-piece RBFPDs with different occlusal rest positions. Half of the specimens underwent chewing simulation process (240,000 cycles, 50 N load, 1.7 Hz) and thermocycling (temperatures 5℃~55℃, dwelling time 30 seconds) and the remaining 20 specimens didn't receive any treatment. All the specimens were immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 24 hours to evaluate microleakage, and were sectioned at the middle part of abutment teeth. To evaluate the microleaskage, a dye penetration was calculated. RESULT: With artificial aging, cyclic loading and thermocycling, a 3-piece RBPFD and a 2-piece RBPFD using original tooth undercuts have significantly lower microleakge (P<0.05) compared to the conventional design of RBPFD and modified RBPFD. CONCLUSION: Within the limit of this experiment, the assembled RBFPDs exhibited a smaller microleakage than the conventional RBFPDs, implying that the assembled RBFPDs can be more effective for reducing the dislodgement of the RBFPDs.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate whether dentin surface preparation with diamond rotary instruments of different grit sizes affects the shear bond strength of resin-bonded restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The buccal enamel of 60 maxillary central incisors was removed with a low speed diamond saw and wet ground with silicon carbide papers. The polished surfaces of the teeth were prepared with four groups of rotary diamond burs with super-coarse (SC), coarse (C), medium (M), and fine (F) grit sizes. Following surface preparation, 60 restorations were casted with nickel-chromium alloy and bonded with Panavia cement. To assess the shear bond strength, the samples were mounted on a universal testing machine and an axial load was applied along the cement-restoration interface at the crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The acquired data was analyzed with one way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test (α=.05). RESULTS: The mean ± SD shear bond strengths (in MPa) of the study groups were 17.75 ± 1.41 for SC, 13.82 ± 1.13 for C, 10.40 ± 1.45 for M, and 7.13 ± 1.18 for F. Statistical analysis revealed the significant difference among the study groups such that the value for group SC was significantly higher than that for group F (P<.001). CONCLUSION: Dentin surface roughness created by diamond burs of different grit sizes considerably influences the shear bond strength of resin bonded restorations.

RESUMO

Resin-bonded fibre-reinforced composite bridges provide many advantages over the conventional bridges or implant treatment in the management of a traumatically or congenitally missing anterior tooth. Furthermore, there is an increasing demand towards providing a metal free resin-bonded bridges over the alloybased restorations in order to meet the aesthetic needs especially in the anterior region. Advances in the adhesive technology and tooth colored materials offer improved bonding system and better aesthetic outcome. Nevertheless, careful selection of cases to receive this type of approach is also one of the key factor to ensure the clinical survival of fibre-reinforced composite bridges. This report aims to present the use of fibre-reinforced composite to construct indirect cantilever fibre-reinforced composite bridges as part of minimum intervention dentistry.

The replacement of missing teeth can be accomplished in different ways such as ceramic or metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures, dental implants or resin-bonded fixed partial dentures. Since the existing solutions are not always effective, a new approach is described to ensure adequate retention and satisfactory aesthetics for resin-bonded fixed partial denture with only one element. The authors present a clinical case of the Faculty of Dentistry of Porto - Portugal, showing the rehabilitation of a missing left second premolar with a new two-component system of resin-bonded fixed partial denture, which is bonded to the adjacent teeth. The replacement of one posterior tooth with this two component resin-bonded fixed partial denture may be more efficient and retentive than the classic ones.

This case report presents the principles, techniques (laboratory and clinical) and the results of an oral rehabilitation with a glass berreinforced composite fxed partial denture (GFCPD). A 23-year-old female patient with absence of tooth 36, intact 35 and 37 with class I amalgam restoration came to dental school. Expulsive OD and MO conservative cavity preparations were executed on teeth 35 and 37, respectively. Defnitive impressions were taken with a condensation silicone and provisional restorations made with acrylic resin. The glass-fiber system plus the microhybrid composite resin, in colors A3 e A2 (enamel and dentin), were employed. After finishing and polishing the prosthesis, intaglio surfaces were aluminum oxide sandblasted, silanized and adhesively fxed with Adper Single Bond 2 and Rely-X ARC. Then, a rigorous occlusal adjustment and new polishment were performed with diamond pastes. This conservative treatment option enabled tooth 35 to receive minor cavity preparations and also tooth 37, which had already been prepared in the past to receive an amalgam restoration. The employed materials restored occlusal function and esthetical appearance, and occlusal adjustment rises the chances for greater longevity. The knowledgement about GFCPD cavity preparation principles, fibers issues, prosthodontics planning and adhesive principles are the principal reason for successful treatments.
