RESUMO

Symptomatic vertebral artery (VA) stenosis associated with bilateral carotid rete mirabile (CRM) has not been reported. We report the long-term clinical and angiographic outcome after stenting for symptomatic VA stenosis in the patient with bilateral CRM. This report is the first case that symptomatic VA stenosis associated with bilateral CRM was treated with stenting.

RESUMO

Bilateral carotid and vertebral rete mirabile (CVRM) is a very rare condition. We report a new case of CVRM initially detected by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. MRI demonstrated tortuous vascular signal voids limited to the anterior cerebrospinal fluid space mimicking spinal dural arteriovenous fistula. A diagnosis of CVRM was confirmed on the basis of angiographic findings of rete formation associated with bilateral aplasia of the cavernous internal carotid and vertebral arteries without abnormal arteriovenous connection.

RESUMO

Cerebral rete mirabile is a unusual form of chronic cerebrovascular occlusive disease characterized usually by bilateral stenosis of distal internal carotid arteries and their vicinity, by a hazy network of collateral circulation at the base of brain called moyamoya vessels and clinically by recurring hemispheric ischemic attack in children. We have reported here 2 cases of cerebral rete mirabile in children and performed newly developed operative procedure which we think is an ideal surgical method for treatment of this disease in children and is compared with other surgical treatment.

RESUMO

Cerebral rete mirabile, as an entity of particular disease, have been reported by many authors with various discussion in opinion. But, until now, despite of good agreement of its angiographic opinions, its exact pathogenesis and etiology has not been established. Authors have been experienced a pair of cerebral rete mirabile in identical twin girls, which were confirmed by cerebral angiography.

RESUMO

Three cases of cerebral rete mirabile associated with aneurysms are presented. In two cases the aneurysms were located at the anterior communicating arteries, and in one at the peripheral portion of the middle cerebral artery. For the anterior communicating artery aneurysms, operations were performed. Based on these experiences, the difficulties and necessities of operations for the aneurysms associated with cerebral rete mirabilies are briefly discussed.

RESUMO

The cerebral rete mirabile with intracranial aneurysm is rare. The authors presented a cerebral rete mirabile with aneurysm which was experienced by us recently and the literature review about 38 cerebral rete mirabile with intracranial aneurysms which were reported until 1981 in the whole world were made. A 22 years old Korean female was admitted due to sudden onset of severe headache and vomiting. Neurological finding revealed positive neck stiffness with Kernig' sign. The carotid angiogram narrowed internal carotid artery and distinct occlusion of middle cerebral artery with vascular network in the base of the brain and small aneurysm in the anterior choroidal artery. The patient was discharged following conservative treatment.
