RESUMO

A granular cell tumour is a tumour of neural origin and is mostly benign and rarely malignant and commonly found in the skin, oral cavity or digestive tract. This report describes a case of a 23 - year - old female with a palpable painless mass on the back near the left axilla with progressive growth. While her laboratory tests and radiological were within normal limits histopathological examination revealed round to polygonal PAS positive atypical cells with large vesicular nuclei and coarsely granular cytoplasm along with foci of spindling an d necrosis which on IHC were S - 100 and CD68 positive and negative for cytokeratin, desmin, EMA. Thus, rendering a diagnosis of a malignant granular tumour of primary origin. This case highlights the importance of accurate histopathological examination to r ecognise and further categorization of Granular cell tumours along with clinical and radiological correlation .

RESUMO

Immunohistochemical staining was performed in 20 skin granulomas of 16 patients with leprosy using antisera against lysozyme and S-100 protein. In lepromatous leprosy, lysozyme positive cells and S-100 protein positive cells were rarely found in the dermis. However, the histoid leprosy specimen had large numbers of lysozyrne positive cells and S-100 protein positive cells in granuloma. In borderline group, lysozyme positive cells and S-l00 protein positive cells were found in the dermis. S-100 protein positive cells were diffusely distributed throughuut the granuloma in borderline lepromatous leprosy, while they were often found in lymphocytic mantle in borderline tuberculoid leprosy. In tuberculoid leprosy, lysozymal staining was encouritered in epitheloid cells and giant cells, but S-100 protein positive cells were predominantly found encircling granuloma. In the epidermis, great numbers of S-l00 protein positive cells were found in tuberculoid leprosy than in lepromatous leprosy.

RESUMO

An immunohistochemical and electron microscopic study of an atypical fibroxanthoma of the skin (AFX) was reported. The lesion developed on the left scapulararea in a 70-year-old man. The result using antibody to S-100 protein was negative and the tumor cells observed with electron microscope were undifferentiated, fibroblast-like, histiocyte-like and multinucleated giant cells. But Langerhans-like cells or Langerhans were not found.
