RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the retention effects of an individualized dietary education program for hemodialysis patients on diet knowledge, diet self-care compliance, and physiological indices, thus to find the most effective time period for re-education. Method: This study utilized one-group repeated pretest-posttest design. The participants were 52 hemodialysis patients in C hospital, Gyeonggi-Do. Data were collected at 4 and 12 weeks after the education from January through April 2016. RESULTS: There was significant increases in diet knowledge even 12 weeks after the education (p=.007). Diet self-care compliance showed a significant increase at 4 weeks (p=.001), but a decrease at 12 weeks after the education. The level of blood natrium was significantly decreased between 4 and 12 weeks after the education (p=.006). The weight was significantly decreased at 12 weeks after the education. CONCLUSION: It has been identified that re-education for hemodialysis patients should be implemented between 4 and 12 weeks after education in order to maintain patients' diet self-care compliance, an ultimate aim of diet education. By helping them with their self-care compliance, the patients would maintain their physical and psychological function optimally, thus contributing to a better quality of life among hemodialysis patients.

RESUMO

Objective To investigate the effect of structured preoperative instruction on anxiety and self-care compliance in elder patients with cataract surgery. Methods Eighty patients over the age of 60 years undergoing cataract surgery were randomly assigned into experiment group and control group with 40 cases in each group. The experiment group received structured guidance preoperative intervention and the control group wtih routine care.SA(Self-Rating Anxiety Scale)and self-designed self-care compliance scale were used before and after interuention, postoperative patients’anxiety and self-care compliance were assessed 1d before and after surgery.Result There were significant differences between the two groups in the postoperative state anxiety (all P﹤0.01)and the postoperative self-care compliance score was higher than the control group. Conclusion Structured preoperative instruction reduces preoperative anxiety and improve compliance in elderly patients with senile cataract.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To investigate the influence of additional postoperative individualized teaching on the anxiety levels and self-care compliance of postoperative care in patients after one-day cataract surgery. METHODS: The present study included 80 cataract patients who underwent phacoemulsification and posterior intraocular lens insertion performed by a single operator between January 2011 and February 2011. The control group consisted of patients who received postoperative education from an ophthalmology coordinator based on previous hospital policy. The experiment group consisted of patients who received additional individualized postoperative education from an operator in the recovery room. Trait anxiety on operation day, state anxiety on postoperative day 1, and self-care compliance and postoperative satisfaction at postoperative 1 month were evaluated. RESULTS: There were no significant differences of trait anxiety levels on operation day or state anxiety on postoperative day 1 between the control and experiment groups. The experiment group revealed a higher score on the postoperative self-care compliance questionnaire, especially regarding care of the operation site. CONCLUSIONS: Individualized postoperative education increases self-care compliance level and contributes to improve postoperative recovery after one-day cataract surgery.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine self care compliance, family support, and depression in patients with congestive heart failure. METHOD: The participants were 105 outpatients with congestive heart failure. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey on self care compliance, family support, and depression. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS Win 10.0 program. RESULT: 1. The total score for Self care compliance was 78.34 out of a possible 120 and was significantly high for people in ages between 70~79 years and people who were not employed. Exercise compliance was significantly high in men and classifications I & II of the NYHA class. Compliance with smoking and alcohol cessation were significantly high in women. Medication compliance was significantly high in the group which had experience with hospitalization. Family support was 31.75 out of a possible 40 and showed significant differences depending on spouse status and religion. Depression was 30.18 out of a possible 64 and was significantly high in the group whose educational level was above college graduation or who were under 65 years of age. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that nurses have to emphasize smoking and alcohol cessation for men, exercise for women and total self care compliance for patients under 65 years of age.

RESUMO

This study was a descriptive research on the level of self-care available to continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients( here-inafter referred to as "CAPD patient" ) related to the specific area of infection management. The method employed for the collection of data was a modified instrument of the self-care survey essentially based on Young Sook Choi's instrument. The relevant data was collected from september 1, 1996 to september 30, 1996. the subjects were provided with an open-ended question regarding the reasons behind why they did not seek self-care. The answers provided about self-care compliance were analyzed by SPSS for frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, ANOVA. Reasons for non-compliance were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The percentage of patients engaging in self-care were according to the following self performed tasks : preparation of dialysis : 30.58 points Dialysate exchange procedures : 49.40 points - Two bag type : 50.50 points - Spike type : 48.80 points - Neo type : 48.90 points Catheter exit site care : 25.13 points More specifically, in relation to the preparation of dialysis as referred to above, those patients engaging in self care was relatively high with respect to the cleaning of the dialysis before use and for the preservation of peritosol. However, in dialysate exchange procedures, data revealed that those patients engaging in self-care are relatively low with respect to putting on a mask during the performance of peritosol exchange. Similarly in peritosol exchange procedure and catheter exit care, low levels of self-care performance were fond in the area of putting on a mask during the peritosol exchange procedures and catheter line testing procedures, respectively. 2. In general characteristics, there appeared to be no distinction in self-care compliance among CAPD patients. 3. The main reasons for non-compliance were based in the following factor : intellectual, attitude, environmental surrounding and physical. As a result of the foregoing finding, nurses should provide adequate assistance to promote self-care compliance by CAPD patients by checking the preparation of dialysis, dialysate exchange procedure, and catheter exit site care which received ow point in this research.
