ABSTRACT Introduction: Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) are unwanted clinical or laboratory manifestations that are related to drug use. ADR are common and are associated with significant risk of morbidity, mortality and hospital admissions. Antipsychotics have a reduced therapeutic window, and have been related to the manifestation of a variety of ADR. Objetive: To evaluate the pattern of ADRs due to antipsychotic drugs detected in patients treated at the Ramón de la Fuente Muñiz National Institute of Psychiatry between December 2021 and May 2022. Methods: Observational, descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study of a series of cases. The seriousness, severity, and quality of the information in the notification of the ADR were defined in accordance with NOM-220-SSA1-2016, Installation and Operation of Pharmacovigilance, while causality was determined using the Naranjo algorithm. Results: The incidence of ADRs was 59%, with one or more ADR detected in 52 of the 88 patients who were receiving antipsychotic treatment during the study period. Forty-five percent of the ADR had probable causality and 55% possible; only three ADR were classified as serious as they prolonged the hospital stay and endangered the patient's life. Conclusions: The ADR of the gastrointestinal and endocrine systems were the most incidental, with hyperprolactinemia being the most frequent. Olanzapine and clozapine were the medications that caused the most ADR. It is recommended to promote the culture of notification and follow-up of ADR caused by antipsychotic drugs.

Introduction: Before cases of Covid-19 were registered in Cuba, a prevention and control plan was developed and a working group was formed to advise the Government on the confrontation of the pandemic with a crucial and cohesive participation of the community, the health workers, and the scientific community of the country. Objective: to explore the risk perception and attitudes of people residing in Havana in compliance with protection measures during Covid-19. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out between May and July 2021 applying an online survey in Google Forms that remained online for three months and was answered voluntarily by 2 012 residents in all the municipalities of Havana that were members of population groups of interest on Telegram®, WhatsApp, and other social networks. Results: Low risk perception and non-compliance with protection measures were evidenced among the respondents. Conclusions: The low perception of population risk and non-compliance with protection measures contribute to increasing the severity of the epidemiological situation in Havana and the spread of the pandemic.

RESUMO

In this paper, we propose a window-based mechanism visualization approach as an alternative way to measure the seriousness of the difference among data-insights extracted from a composite biodata point. The approach is based on two components: undirected graph and Mosaab-metric space. The significant application of this approach is to visualize the segmented genome of a virus. We use Influenza and Ebola viruses as examples to demonstrate the robustness of this approach and to conduct comparisons. This approach can provide researchers with deep insights about information structures extracted from a segmented genome as a composite biodata point, and consequently, to capture the segmented genetic variations and diversity (variants) in composite data points.

RESUMO

Background: Adverse drug reactions (ADR) are the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in all health care systems. Hospital based ADR monitoring and reporting programmes can throw some light upon the profile of ADRs and ways to prevent them, facilitating rational drug use. An attempt has been made in this study to analyse the seriousness, predictability, preventability, severity and outcome of ADRs occurring in a tertiary care hospital. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study based on the data collected from ADRs reported to an approved ADR monitoring centre (AMC). Data collected was evaluated for seriousness, predictability, preventability, severity and outcome using appropriate scales. Simple descriptive statistics was used for analysis. Results: The total number of ADRs reported was 300. Among this 39% reactions were serious. The commonest reason for considering as serious reaction was prolongation of hospitalization. The overall predictability was 40.4%. Total preventability was found to be 18.3%. Assessment of severity showed 55.3 %, 41.7%, 3% reactions in mild, moderate and severe grades respectively. 64.3% patients had recovered from the reaction and 30% were recovering at the time of reporting ADR. Only 0.3% ADRs caused death. Conclusions: Authors hope this study will foster the culture of reporting and analysing ADRs among health care professionals and students. The findings from the study can create awareness among health care professionals regarding the impact of ADRs on the treatment course.
