RESUMO

A 30-year-old female presented with macular edema and discoid exudation at the posterior pole. Diffuse vascular sheathing was observed at the peripheral retina. Fluorescein angiography revealed multiple microaneurysms at the posterior pole and leakage from the peripheral vessels. Two monthly intravitreal bevacizumab led to minimal improvement, and resolution of macular edema was achieved by an additional intravitreal triamcinolone. The findings at the posterior pole resembled those of Leber's miliary aneurysm. However, this case also demonstrated a peculiar vascular sheathing at the periphery and showed response to triamcinolone, which are evidences for an inflammatory condition.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Frosted branch angiitis is a rare retinal disease with the characteristic sheathing in the retinal vessels. We report a typical case of this disease. METHODS: A thirty-year-old woman complained of sudden decrease of visual acuity developed in both eyes three days ago. Visual acuity was 0.4 with several inflammatory cells in the anterior chambers of both eyes. There were diffuse vascular sheathing like frosted branch in both retinas. Fluorescein angiogram showed staining and leakage of dye along the vascular sheathing. RESULTS: Visual acuity recovered to 1.0 and retinal findings returned normal 2 weeks after treatment with the low dose of systemic steroid. There was no recurrence during follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: Typical frosted branch angiitis occurs suddenly in both eyes of the young, and it responds well to treatment with the low dose of systemic steroid.

RESUMO

Frosted branch angiitis menifests with acute visual loss in an otherwise young healthy patient. The fundus findings are dramatic and characterized by severe white sheathing of the retinal vessels. A variable amount of anterior chamber and vitreous inflammation also occur. Fluorescein angiography demonstrates leakage of dye from the retinal vessels with no evidence of vascular stasis or occlusion. The clinical findings respond dramatically to systemic corticosteroids. The authors experienced a case of frosted branch angiitis which occured in 5year-old female whose fundus findings were marked white sheathing and macular thicking.
