RESUMO

Background: Children require more nutrition as organs grow fast in this age group. Due to abundance of various commercial health supplements in market, parents are often confused about selection of health supplements. Traditional foods are rich source of various nutrients required by growing children. We conducted a study to compare strength, stamina and growth enhancing ability of commercial health supplement and natural health supplement on wistar rats. Methods: Total of 24 wistar rats were included. Animals were divided in four groups. Each group of rats except control group were receiving health supplements. Group I, group II, group III and group IV were receiving health supplement I, health supplement II, natural health supplement and no health supplement (control group) for 60 days. Strength and stamina of wistar rats in each group were analysed using grip strength meter and swim stress test, growth of rats in each group were analysed by measuring body length, tail length and body weight. Group of rat showing maximum growth (body length, tail length and body weight), strength and stamina were analysed. Results: Group II rats showed greater strength and stamina followed by group I, group III and group IV respectively. Group I rats showed maximum growth followed by group II, group III and group IV respectively. Conclusions: In the current study we found that strength and stamina were greater in group II rats followed by group I, group III and group IV respectively also group I rats showed maximum growth followed by group II, group III and group IV respectively.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the stamina, the role of antioxidant system in severe acute pancreatitis(SAP),and the effect of fish oil treatment in rats.Methods:Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats(SD) were randomly divided into three groups, including SAP group(sodium chloride treatment ) (group NSG,n=12),fish oil treatment group (group FOG,n=12),and control group (group CG,n=12).SAP was induced by intergraded injection of 3.5% sodium tanrocholate to biliopancreatic duct of SD rats in group NSG and FOG.The group NSG rats were treated by subcutaneous injection of sodium chloride, while the group FOG rats were treated by subcutaneous injection of fish oil for 7 days. Then the improved tail suspension test was observed at the first, third, fifth, seventh day.12 rats in each group were respectively sacrificed after 7 day.The activity of serum antioxidant enzymes (MDA,GSH-PH) and the concentration of serum amylase were measured in each group, and the levels of threshold on the area and the total immobility time were measured in each group. The severity of pancreatitis was analyzed according to the histopathological morphology. Results: Compared to group NSG,the severity of pancreatitis was significantly decreased in group FOG.The activity of MDA was significantly increased in group NSG than that in group CG (P<0.01) ,while the activity of MDA in group FOG was decreased than that in group NSG (P<0.05) .The activity of GSH-PH was significantly decreased in group NSG than that in group CG(P<0.01),while the activity of GSH-PH was increased in group GOG than that in group NSG (P<0.05).THE level of threshold on the area was decreased in group NSG than that in group CG(P<0.01),while the level of threshold on the area was increased in group GOG than that in group NSG.(P<0.01) The total immobility time was significantly increased in group NSG than that in group CG(P<0.01),while the total immobility time was decreased in group GOG than that in group NSG(P<0.05).MDA was associated with the level of threshold on the area and the total immobility time. Conclusion: Fish oil has a positive effect on the activity of antioxidant system and behavior character in SAP rats.

RESUMO

@#Objective To investigate the effect of obesity on physical stamina of college students. Methods The physical stamina and obese status of 7353 college students were measured. The relationship between obese degrees and the scores of step trial, vital capacity, grip, standing long jump was analyzed. Results The male's and female's vital capacity score was obesity students > pre-obesity students > normal students > thin students ( P<0.01). The male's step trail score was the normal body weight students and pre-obesity students > obese students ( P<0.05). The male and female's standing long jump score was normal students > pre-obesity students > obesity students ( P<0.05). The male and female's grip score was obesity students > pre-obesity students > normal students > thin students ( P< 0.05 ).Conclusion The lung function and the arm power of college students are increasing with the rise of obese degrees. The heart function and breakout force are decreasing with the rise of obese degrees.

RESUMO

To develop a simple test of endurance capacity in the elderly, we evaluated the reliability and validity of the shuttle stamina walk test (SSTw), in which the running in the shuttle stamina test (SST : 3-minute shuttle running along a 10-meter course) was changed to walking.<BR>We found that: 1) The walking distance in the SSTw was correlated with Vo2max (r=0.827), 2) the walking distance showed a correlation between the first test and a re-test (r=0.853), 3) the mean peak heart rate during the test was 86.3% of the estimated maximum heart rate with no difference according to age or sex, 4) subjective evaluation of the intensity of exercise was expressed as“fairly light”or“somewhat hard”by 73.7% of the subjects, 5) the results of the SSTw reflected the subjects' self-evaluation of endurance capacity, and 6) the age-related percentage reduction of the walking distance in the SSTw was similar to that in V2max in subjects aged 40 years and above.<BR>These results suggest that the SSTw, a simple test of endurance capacity that can be performed safely over a wide range of middle-aged to elderly people including those in late old age and those with a low fitness level, has sufficient reliability and validity.
