RESUMO

Objective:To describe the symptom experience of patients with cirrhosis, and explore the mediating effect of self-efficacy between symptom experience and quality of life. Methods:A total of 197 inpatients with liver cirrhosis from June 2020 to February 2021 in Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine were recruited in this study by convenient sampling method. Symptom experience, quality of life and self-efficacy were assessed by Memorial Symptom Assessment Scale, Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire and Self-efficacy for Managing Chronic Disease. The correlation among the three was analyzed and a structural equation model was constructed to evaluate the mediating effect of self-efficacy on symptom experience and quality of life. Results:The total score of symptom experience, quality of life and self-efficacy were (0.79±0.34), (32.51±5.96), (5.10±1.33). Symptom experience was significantly negatively correlated with self-efficacy and quality of life( r=-0.343, -0.763, both P<0.01). Self-efficacy was significantly positively correlated with quality of life( r=0.347, P<0.01). Symptom experience significantly negatively affected quality of life through self-efficacy ( β=-0.036, P=0.045). The total effect of symptom experience on quality of life was composed of direct effect ( β=-0.727, P<0.001) and indirect effect ( β=-0.036, P=0.045). Conclusions:Self-efficacy has a mediating effect between symptom experience and quality of life in patients with liver cirrhosis, which can improve symptom experience and reduce the negative impact of symptoms on quality of life by improving self-efficacy.

RESUMO

Objective:To explore the symptom experience of patients with acute coronary syndrome before diagnosis, in order to improve their early recognition ability, timely medical treatment rate and formulate relevant measures to provide reference.Methods:Semi-structured interview was performed in 18 patients with acute coronary syndrome from August 12 2020 to September 8 in Shanxi Provincial people′s Hospital using phenomenological research, and the data were analyzed under the guidance of symptom experience model. Results:A total of four themes were summarized: symptom perception: diseases being easily predicted, symptom experiences being diverse and diseases being easily overlooked; symptom evaluation: correct evaluation and evaluation bias; symptom response: self-response and family-society support; reflection on the process of symptom experience:medical behaviour and lack of awareness of disease. Conclusions:At present, the identification of acutecoronary syndrome is still a challenge. Patients should enrich relevant knowledge, pay attention to their own symptom experience, make the correct evaluation and deal with it effectively. Medical workers should carry out relevant education to improve the ability of patients to identify diseases.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of self-care, symptom experience and disease state among the patients with liver cirrhosis and to identify its correlation. METHODS: The subjects were 220 patients with liver cirrhosis who were treated in D-university hospital in Busan. The instruments used for study were the self-care inventory, the symptom experience inventory and modified childpugh classification scale. RESULTS: The average points of the patient's self-care performance, symptom experience, and disease status were 3.67, 29.10 and 6.12 respectively. Their self care was negatively correlated to symptom experience, and symptom experience was positively correlated to disease state. CONCLUSION: This research findings suggested that active self-care by patients with liver cirrhosis might contribute to reduce various symptoms they can undergo and to prevent aggravation of disease state. Therefore, patients with liver cirrhosis have to carry out self care actively in daily life and discreet nursing intervention should be offered to facilitate their self-care.

RESUMO

The major purpose of this study was to evaluate the asthma related quality of life in relation to asthma control/severity, multidimensional symptom experience (frequency, intensity distress), and socioeconomic status in adults with asthma. Data was collected by mailed-survey to 384 people with asthma and 172 responded. The mean of the respondents age was 49.6 yrs. The mean of the length of time they were diagnosed as having asthma was 21 yrs. Asthma was well controlled in this sample. The findings revealed that overall asthma related quality of life were relatively good in this sample. In terms of symptom experience, shortness of breath was identified as the most frequent, severe, and distressful of the four asthma symptoms. The score for symptom distress was significantly lower than the score for the frequency and severity across all asthma symptoms. The results indicate that symptoms occurred frequently and intensely, but they were not always distressing to the subjects. Among the three symptom dimensions, distress was the best predictor for asthma related quality of life measured by LWAQ. Results of Multiple regression analysis indicated that asthma severity, symptom distress, and socioeconomic status influenced the quality of life(R2=.66, F (3,68)=44.37, P=.000). Findings highlight the importance of symptom distress with respect to the quality of life of people with asthma.
