Introducción: la odontología es un campo indispensable para el ser humano, de no existir, se complica la prevención y atención de las patologías orales, resultando en estructuras dentales y bucales enfermas. La cantidad de pacientes diagnosticados con trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) que acuden a consulta odontológica va en aumento, lo cual genera ansiedad en el cirujano dentista al no contar con la capacitación adecuada para la atención de estos pacientes. Existen técnicas que ayudan al manejo correcto del comportamiento de los pacientes con trastorno del espectro autista como decir-mostrar-hacer, sedación consciente, TEACCH y desensibilización. Objetivo: explicar las técnicas para la atención de pacientes con trastorno del espectro autista durante la consulta odontológica. Conclusiones: aprender a tratar a los pacientes con trastorno del espectro autista es de suma importancia, ya que para ellos una simple consulta inicial podría convertirse en una experiencia traumática. Es necesario que todos los odontólogos conozcan las técnicas de manejo de conducta para que traten con profesionalidad a pacientes con trastorno del espectro autista debido al aumento de la prevalencia de personas diagnosticadas con este padecimiento (AU)
Introduction: dentistry is an indispensable field for the human being, if it did not exist, the prevention and care of oral pathologies would be complicated, resulting in diseased dental and oral structures. The number of patients diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who come to a dental office is increasing, which generates anxiety in the dentist surgeon because they do not have adequate training to care for these patients. There are techniques that help to correctly manage the behavior of patients with autism spectrum disorder such as tell-show-do, conscious sedation, TEACCH and desensitization. Objectives: explain the techniques for the care of patients with autism spectrum disorder during the dental consultation. Conclusions: learning to treat patients with autism spectrum disorder is extremely important, since for them a simple initial consultation could become a traumatic experience. It is necessary that all dentists know behavior management techniques so that they treat patients with autism spectrum disorder professionally due to the increase in the prevalence of people diagnosed with this condition (AU)

Background: Children experience dental anxiety during their first dental visit, which affects the quality of dental treatment and gives rise to behaviour management problems. Clay, origami and building blocks have been effective in alleviating hospitalization anxiety in pediatric patients. These successful techniques in hospitalized pediatric patients have seldom been used in the dental set up. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess and compare the efficacy of clay therapy, origami and building blocks in the management of dental anxiety in children aged 6-10 years.
Methods: Sixty children aged 6-10 years, with no previous dentist exposure, with Frankl抯 behaviour rating 2 or 3 having dental caries with international caries detection and assessment system (ICDAS) score 3 requiring restorations without local anesthesia were selected and divided into four groups. Group 1 � clay therapy; group 2 - building blocks; group 3 � origami; and group 4 � tell show do. Pulse rate, facial image scale (FIS) and face, leg, activity, cry, consolability (FLACC) behaviour scales were used to quantify anxious behaviour. Operator compliance and parent acceptance was rated on the Likert scale.
Results: The results showed lower mean pulse rates, lower FIS and FLACC scores, and better operator compliance and parental acceptance in clay therapy, origami and building blocks groups than in the conventional tell-show-do group. The most significant reduction in all the parameters was seen in the clay therapy group.
Conclusions: Clay therapy, origami and building blocks can be used as an effective means to reduce dental anxiety in children.

Background: The aim of behavior management is to instill a positive dental attitude in the anxious patient. It is the means by which the dental team can effectively and efficiently perform treatment, and encourages a child to have a long-term interest in improving dental health and the ongoing prevention of disease. Aim of the study was to evaluate the behavior of the children by using various behavior management techniques like thaumaturgy, live modelling and tell show do.Method: A total of 120 children, aged between 5-6 years fulfilling eligibility criteria were taken for the study. three groups were made and comparison was done between three behaviour management techniques: thaumaturgy, live modelling and tell show do. behaviour was recorded using Frankel behaviour rating scale was recorded before and after the procedure.Results: there was significant difference between thaumaturgy and other behaviour management techniques live modelling and tell show do (p=0.005). there was no statistical change in the behaviour between tell show do and live modelling.Conclusions: Thaumaturgy technique is better at reducing anxiety levels and all the three behaviour management techniques were effective in installing positive behaviour.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of five pre?treatment behaviour modification techniques in 4–7?year olds in reducing dental anxiety by evaluating pulse rate, partial pressure of oxygen, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, salivary flow rate, salivary pH, and through modified facial anxiety scale. Material and Methods: Using simple random sampling technique (drawing of lots), 125 children were equally distributed into 5 groups of 25 each: Group 1: tell?show?do (control); Group 2: tell?show?play?doh; Group 3: Playmobil Dentist; Group 4: mobile dentist games; Group 5: role play as dentist. Samples in each group were treated in a single appointment after using the behaviour modification techniques. Class I or Class II cavities were prepared on carious primary molar and restored using glass ionomer cement. Patient’s anxiety level was assessed by recording blood pressure, pulse rate, oxygen saturation, salivary pH, salivary flow rate, and facial anxiety scale at different time intervals, that is before the treatment, during the treatment, and after the treatment. Results: All the intervention Groups (Groups 2–5) showed reduced anxiety scores in both physiological and facial anxiety compared to the control group, that is tell, show do. The modified distraction techniques aid in better modification. Conclusion: Tell?show?play?doh, Playmobil dentist games, mobile dentist games and role play as dentist are effective distraction techniques as compared to conventional tell?show?do techniques which can be incorporated in day?to?day clinical practice to reduce dental anxiety in paediatric patients

BACKGROUND: Behavior guidance is a technique used to subdue inappropriate behavior by establishing communication that meets the needs of a child. This study aimed to measure the effectiveness of a mobile app (Little Lovely Dentist) compared to the tell-show-do (TSD) technique in managing anxious children during their first dental visit.METHODS: Fifty children (30 boys and 20 girls) without any past dental experience, aged from 7 to 11 years, were randomly allocated into either the dental app group or the TSD group. The pre- and post-operative anxiety of children who underwent prophylactic cleaning was assessed both physiologically and subjectively using a heart rate measurement and the RMS pictorial scale, respectively.RESULTS: The intragroup comparison of heart rate and RMS scores for children allocated to the dental app group was statistically significant (P value ≤ 0.001). However, a significant reduction only occurred in the RMS scores, but not the heart rate measurements, in the TSD group. Conversely, there was an increase in heart rates in the TSD group.CONCLUSION: Educating the child prior to a dental procedure using a smartphone application such as Little Lovely Dentist can significantly alleviate the anticipatory anxiety and engage children in dental treatment during their first visit.
