RESUMO

The decrease in physical activity in elementary school children is an important problem in Japan. Previous studies have shown that physical activity during the summer vacation is lower than during the school days, and a program for increase in physical activity during the summer vacation are required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of physical education homework and exercise events during summer vacation in elementary school children. A total of 67 children in grade 4 were assigned to the two groups for each school: the control school (n = 39) or the intervention school (i.e., did physical education homework and participated in exercise events; n = 28). Physical education homework was constituted of four exercise programs per day. Additionally, exercise events were carried out four times during the summer vacation. Physical activity before and during the summer vacation were measured by accelerometer (Lifecorder EX). The decline in physical activity of the intervention school was less than the control school, and significant interactions were indicated by two-way repeated ANOVA (Step count: F (1, 65) = 6.704; Light-intensity physical activity, LPA: F (1, 65) = 4.365; Moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity, MVPA: F (1, 65) = 6.088, all P < 0.05, respectively). After adjusted for sex, percentage of overweight, participation of sport activity, and each physical activity, significant trends of interactions about the step count, LPA, and MVPA were shown (Step count: F (1, 61) = 3.982, P = 0.050; LPA: F (1, 61) = 3.243, P = 0.077; MVPA: F (1, 61) = 2.916, P = 0.093). These results suggest that combined use of physical education homework and exercise events are effective to attenuate the decrease in physical activity during summer vacation in elementary school children.

Abstract Nature and its elements, such as sun, water, weather (all considered regenerative) are asserted in medical discourses as appropriate destinations for the vacations time, a worker's right legally established in 1943 by the CLT (Consolidações das Leis do Trabalho). This paper deals with vacation trips to thermal springs by analyzing one specific travelling destination: Poços de Caldas/MG. Based on a set of travel guides and magazines of scientific dissemination published in the decades of 1930 and 1940 we aim at analyzing this thermal spring as a place of healing and amusement. Thus, we analyze the role played by body education in the prescriptions of such travelling destinations.

RESUMO

The hypothesis that the vacation-study-expectancy scholar regime produces most of the monthly rhythm of the age at menarche (AaM) was tested. Studies on monthly menarche incidence (MI) refuted climatic factors as a main factor in this rhythm, and indicated that the main factor of this rhythm is the succession of expectancies of study (Stu-months) or vacation (Vac-months) months within a year. Thus the hypothesis of seasonal circa-annual rhythm should be modified to the circa-[vacation (fiesta)]-[study (non-fiesta)]-expectancies rhythm for the MI and age at menarche annual rhythms. In several countries Vac-months had higher MI than Stu-months. The high MI of Vac-months was followed by a large decrease when girls started their studies and a MI increase occurred as vacations approached. The hypothesis proposes that at the end of vacations and at the beginning of the study period the AaM should be lowest, and then the mean of AaM should increase because of the menarche delay of girls whose menarche was arrested by the initiation of school work. This pattern was found in four independent samples, from Chile, Colombia, USA and Brazil. The probability that this result be due to random fluctuation of means is extraordinarily low (P<10-8). I conclude that the influence of the expectancy of vacation and study periods on the monthly rhythm of the age at menarche is a real process that accounts for most of this rhythm.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of food service management in the restaurants participating in the government-funded children's meal program during summer vacation. A mail survey was conducted with individuals who worked in the restaurants participating in the government-funded children's meal program in Seoul during the summer vacation in 2010. A total of 600 questionnaires were distributed to 274 Chinese, 235 Bunsik and 91 Korean restaurants, which were selected using proportionate stratified sampling by regions and types of operations. A total of 138 usable questionnaires (23.0%) were returned and analyzed. The results showed that over half (57.2%) of the restaurants did not employ any certified cooks. Most of the restaurants (97.8%) provided side dishes; among them, only 42% planned menus for side dishes in advance and only a half changed side dish menus periodically. The suggested reasonable reimbursement rate per meal for children using restaurants differed by types of restaurants; the percentage of restaurants having responded 5,000 won or higher was the highest in Chinese restaurants. This study revealed that food service in the restaurants participating in the government-funded children's meal program was not properly managed during summer vacation, especially in terms of menu and food production. This study also showed that the suggested reasonable reimbursement rate of meals for children using restaurants differed by types of restaurants, implying that adjusting the reimbursement rate according to types of restaurants should be considered in the government-funded children's meal program.

This study realized 98 semi-structured interviews aimed to describe how children and adolescents, participants in a Vacation Camp, perceive their diabetic condition and treatment. The results revealed that the diagnosis is always an impacting factor, difficult to be accepted by the young ones and their families. The support from family and friends when excessive impairs their adaptation. They consider their social lives very restricted and suffer with the control imposed by the treatment. They consider the environment of the vacation camp appropriate to learn about their illness and to promote affective independence and autonomy into self-monitoring.

RESUMO

@#ObjectiveTo observe the effect of early systemic rehabilitation trainings on the function recovery in patients after replantation of severed digit. Methods21 patients were planned systemic rehabilitation trainings more than 2 months after operation. Total Active Measurement (TAM) and Two Points Distance (2-PD) were used for the assessment of motor and sensory function. Employment situation were also followed-up after being discharged from hospital. ResultsThe omni-efficiency of motor and sensory function of the 21 cases was 92.3% and 88.5%. 19 cases of them returned to the original work, 2 cases changed another work. ConclusionThe early systemic rehabilitation trainings are very useful for the hands function and vacation ability of the patients after replantation of severed digit.
