Abstract Introduction : The different structural modifications that have been described in the heart of the high-per formance athlete depend on factors such as age, gender, type of sport, and the intensity and time dedicated to training. Objectives : Evaluation of elite athletes through echo cardiography for the description of cardiac structure and function, and the comparison between athletes with cardiorespiratory endurance and the rest of the athletes. Methods : We performed the echocardiographic ex amination in 224 elite athletes, 96 women and 128 men aged 15 to 38 years (21.7±5.3 years) and they were di vided into 2 groups: "Endurance Group" (cardiorespira tory endurance) and "Non-Endurance Group" which included the rest of the sports. Univariate comparison between the two groups was performed by measuring 14 echocardiographic variables. Results : In men, statistically significant higher values were identified in the endurance group for interventricu lar septum, left ventricular posterior wall, relative wall thickness (RWT), left ventricular mass index and left atrial dimension. In women, the endurance group had signifi cantly lower heart rate values, and significantly higher left ventricular diastolic dimension with normal RWT. Conclusions : Most of the echocardiographic vari ables showed higher sample means in the endurance athletes. In the subgroup of men from the Endurance Group, eccentric hypertrophy prevailed with a greater increase in wall thickness, as well as in the diameter of the left atrium, while in women the variables indicated eccentric hypertrophy at the expense of an increase in left ventricle diameter, without increased wall thickness.

RESUMO
Background: Vitamin K2-rich Jarlsberg Cheese is demonstrated to increase Osteocalcin and bone turnover markers in fertile women. The impact on endurance-trained young cross-country skiers (XCS)with elevated bone turnover remains unclear. Purpose of study was to estimate the optimal daily efficacy dose of Jarlsberg cheese to increase serum Osteocalcin level in young female and male XCS and estimate the Jarlsberg effect on bone turnover markers (BTMs)and bone mineral density(BMD).Methods: In a parallel group study consisting of three design levels, 10 female and 10 male XCS were included, using Response Surface Pathway design. Blood samples were taken at each level for measurements of Osteocalcin, vitamin K2, BTMs and other biochemical parameters. Resting metabolic rate(RMR), BMD, VO2max and muscle strength were measured at start and at the end of the study. Results:The Osteocalcin development with increasing dose of Jarlsberg cheese was almost parallel in both sexes. These variables were reduced significantly from baseline during the first two design levels but increased above baseline by the end of the study. BTMs decreased significantly during the first and second level but increased during the third level. Total and L1-L4 BMD, s-phosphate, s-urea, RMR, muscle strength and Peak VO2increased significantly while s-calcium and s-magnesium decreased. Conclusions:Estimated OED of Jarlsberg cheese was 73 and 84 g/day for females and male athletes, respectively. The development in OC, BTMs and BMD suggest an antiresorptive and perhaps anabolic effect of Jarlsberg Cheese on bone tissue. VO2 max, RMR and muscular strength development indicated an anabolic situation
RESUMO
The rapidly expanding realm of Electronic Sports (eSports) has captivated global attention, blurring the lines between virtual entertainment and traditional athletics. As participation in eSports continues to rise, these competitive gaming platforms are increasingly recognized as legitimate sports. However, with this surge in participation, there's a simultaneous increase in the susceptibility to health hazards, spanning both physical and psychological domains. Musculoskeletal injuries, caused by extended sedentary postures and repetitive motions, afflict eSports athletes, resulting in discomfort in the wrists and hands, alongside back and neck problems. The prolonged exposure to screens predisposes participants to vision-related concerns, highlighting the imperative of addressing ocular health within the eSports community. Simultaneously, the intense cognitive demands and competitive pressures exacerbate mental health challenges, resulting in depression and anxiety among players. Similar to traditional athletes, eSports competitors need appropriate protocols to minimize injury risks, alongside access to medical intervention to manage potential health hazards. This review comprehensively analyses the health dynamics of eSports, elucidating injury profiles, intervention strategies, and health optimization protocols essential for safeguarding the well-being of eSports athletes and enhancing awareness within the eSports community.

Introduction: Celiac disease is a multisystem autoimmune disorder that triggers a reaction to the protein gluten found in foods such as wheat, rye, triticale, barley, spelt, and oats. The most common symptoms of coeliac disease are weight loss, loss of appetite and general fatigue among others. As a result of these symptoms, athletic performance may be affected. Objetive: To understand how celiac disease impacts athletes' performance, the aim of this study is to conduct a systematic review related to sports performance in individuals with celiac disease. Materials and method: To do so, the following search phrase was used: "Celiac" AND "Sport" AND "Performance", which was entered equally in the following databases: Web of Science, Scopus and PubMed. Results: The results show the existence of few documents related to the object of study (n=11), where a variability of design types is shown in the selected works. On the other hand, the only solution to maintain adequate sports performance in a person with coeliac disease is to follow a gluten-free diet for life. Conclusions: The selected documents emphasize the importance of athletes with celiac disease maintaining a gluten-free diet consistently throughout their lives. Due to the scarcity of studies related to this topic, it is recommended to increase the number of research studies on this subject in order to improve the lifestyles and habits of athletes with celiac disease(AU)

Abstract Objectives: To analyze bone mineral content (BMC) and area bone mineral density (aBMD) accrual in adolescent male footballers who started their first football season. Methods: 17 athletes (14.8 ± 0.4 years) were monitored across 15 weeks of football training. Participants were evaluated for somatic maturation (HPHV), BMC, and aBMD at three time points: before (M1) and after (M2) a preparatory phase, and at the end of the competitive phase (M3). BMC and aBMD were measured using DXA scans. Participants were divided into groups according to maturation status (circa-PHV and post-PHV), and the amount of accumulated training load (median split). Results: A significant effect (12.1 g/week, standard error (SE) = 2.6 g/week) was observed for lower limbs BMC across the three time points. There were no significant effects of time for upper limbs BMC. There was a significant effect of time for total body aBMD (0.007, SE = 0.003 g/cm2/week) across the three time points. Adolescents at post-PHV had a significant 245.6 g (SE = 56.1 g) higher BMC compared to adolescents at circa-PHV. No significant effects were observed for the accumulated training load. Conclusion: Systematic football training, even during the growth spurt, has a positive impact on adolescent bone markers despite the accumulated training load and maturation.
RESUMO
SUMMARY: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of different training programs based on small-sided games (SSG) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the body composition of female handball players. A total of 45 female handball players (age: 16.13±0.89 years; training experience: 6.18±1.33 years) were assigned to three groups: game group (GG; N = 15), running group (RG; N = 15), and control group (CON; N = 15). The training programs lasted eight weeks, with two training sessions per week. The GG performed three vs. three small-sided games on a 20 m x 20 m court; the RG performed 15 s HIIT running followed by 15 s of active recovery; the CON group maintained regular handball training. Regardless of the group assignment, all participants were measured for each of the following variables: Body height, body mass, fat-free mass, fat mass, muscle mass, intracellular water, and extracellular water. The results demonstrate significant differences (p0.01) in muscle mass. The GG showed significant (p<0.001) greater improvement in these body composition variables than RG and CON. Body composition variables improved with GG, moving from 2.04 % in fat mass to 1.3 % in extracellular water. In the RG, results show significant improvements (p<0.001) only in intra- and extracellular water. The CON shows improvements in fat-free mass, muscle mass, intracellular water, and extracellular water. To conclude, eight weeks of SSG in handball provide better changes in body composition compared to HIIT 15 s - 15 s and handball training alone.
Conclusion: The Covid-19 quarantine is associated with unfavorable changes in university athletes, specifically changes in eating habits were perceived with an increase in the amount of foods of low nutritional quality, negative changes in weight, worse physical condition, where the individual sports were more affected compared to group sports, feelings of loneliness, anxiety and bad mood, where women were the most affected.
RESUMO
The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare exercise addiction (EA) between runners, cyclists, swimmers, and triathletes. Took part in this study 39 runners, 32 cyclists, 30 swimmers and 38 triathletes. Exercise Dependence Scale (EDS), and the Exercise Addiction Inventory (EAI) was used to evaluate the EA and classified the participants into: at-risk for EA, nondependent-symptomatic, and nondependent-asymptomatic. Most participants were classified as nondependent symptomatic for EA. The EDS total score was significantly lower in the swimmers compared to the cyclists and triathletes and the EAI total score was significantly higher for cyclists compared to runners. Therefore, in both instruments, the majority of participants was nondependent symptomatic for EA.
Participaram do estudo 39 corredores, 32 ciclistas, 30 nadadores e 38 triatletas.

Orthopaedic sports injuries encompass a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions resulting from the physical demands of athletic activities. These injuries can vary from acute, such as sprains and fractures, to chronic overuse syndromes like tendinopathies. Prevalent due to the global enthusiasm for sports, they affect bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. The etiology of these injuries is multifactorial, stemming from biomechanical stressors, training methods, genetics, and environmental conditions. Advanced imaging modalities like magnetic resonance imaging and Computed tomography have revolutionized the assessment and diagnosis of these injuries, aiding in treatment decisions and return-to-play criteria. Injury prevention is paramount and involves understanding intrinsic (athlete-related) and extrinsic (environmental) risk factors. Strategies include pre-participation screening, strength and conditioning programs, biomechanical analysis, neuromuscular training, proper equipment use, rule changes, education, and creating a safety-conscious culture. Effective prevention reduces the burden of these injuries. Treatment strategies range from conservative approaches to surgery, depending on the type and severity of the injury. Emerging trends in sports medicine, including biologic therapies and telemedicine, offer promising avenues for improved diagnosis and recovery. The holistic approach to orthopaedic sports injuries encompasses prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, ensuring athletes' well-being and longevity in their chosen sports.
Abstract Background: Prolongation of the PQ interval, generally associated with an atrioventricular conduction delay, may be related to changes in intraventricular impulse spreading. Objective: To assess, using body surface potential mapping (BSPM), the process of ventricular depolarization in athletes with prolonged PQ intervals at rest and after exercise. Methods: The study included 7 cross-country skiers with a PQ interval of more than 200 ms (Prolonged-PQ group) and 7 with a PQ interval of less than 200 ms (Normal-PQ group). The BSPM from 64 unipolar torso leads was performed before (Pre-Ex) and after the bicycle exercise test (Post-Ex). Body surface equipotential maps were analyzed during ventricular depolarization. The significance level was 5%. Results: Compared to Normal-PQ athletes, the first and second periods of the stable position of cardiac potentials on the torso surface were longer, and the formation of the "saddle" potential distribution occurred later, at Pre-Ex, in Prolonged-PQ athletes. At Post-Ex, the Prolonged-PQ group showed a shortening of the first and second periods of stable potential distributions and a decrease in appearance time of the "saddle" phenomenon relative to Pre-Ex (to the values near to those of the Normal-PQ group). Additionally, at Post-Ex, the first inversion of potential distributions and the total duration of ventricular depolarization in Prolonged-PQ athletes decreased compared to Pre-Ex and with similar values in Normal-PQ athletes. Compared to Normal-PQ athletes, the second inversion was longer at Pre-Ex and Post-Ex in Prolonged-PQ athletes. Conclusion: Prolonged-PQ athletes had significant differences in the temporal characteristics of BSPM during ventricular depolarization both at rest and after exercise as compared to Normal-PQ athletes.
RESUMO
Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of arthroscopic surgery for the treatment of femoral acetabular impingement (FAI) in athletes. Methods:A total of 18 FAI athletes (athlete group) who underwent hip arthroscopy in the Department of Sports Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital from April 2014 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed, including 12 males and 6 females, aged 20.44±3.45 years (range, 15-27 years). According to gender, age, body mass index and follow-up time, 36 non-athlete FAI patients (non-athlete group) were matched at a ratio of 1∶2 by propensity score matching method. There were 18 males and 18 females, aged 20.81±4.68 years (range 14-31 years). The hip pain visual analogue scale (VAS), modified Harris hip score (mHHS), hip outcome score-activity of daily living scale (HOS-ADL) and hip outcome score-sports scale (HOS-SS) scores were compared between the two groups before and after surgery. The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) and patient acceptable symptomatic state (PASS) were also compared between the two groups. Results:All patients successfully completed the surgery and were followed up for 33.56±19.20 months (range, 24-77 months). The VAS score at the last follow-up decreased from 6.22±1.52 points before surgery to 1.28±1.67 points in the athletes group, and decreased from 6.28±1.37 points before surgery to 1.67±1.69 points in the non-athletes group. There was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05). The mHHS score at the last follow-up increased from 65.53±12.90 points before surgery to 92.28±13.59 points in the athletes group, and increased from 61.01±11.96 points before surgery to 86.82±11.98 points in the non-athletes group. There was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05). The HOS-ADL score at the last follow-up increased from 72.77±18.86 points before surgery to 94.00±11.36 points in the athletes group, and increased from 70.35±13.12 points before surgery to 90.78±9.36 points in non-athletes group. There was no significant difference between the two groups ( P>0.05). The HOS-SS score at the last follow-up increased from 49.77±22.93 points before surgery to 87.28±17.62 points in the athletes group, and increased from 44.08±19.66 before surgery to 72.57±20.16 in the non-athletes group. The HOS-SS scores in the athletes group at the last follow-up were higher than those in the non-athletes group ( P<0.05). Furthermore, 61% (11/18) in the athletes group achieved MCID in HOS-ADL after surgery, which was lower than the non-athletes group's 81% (31/36), with a statistically significant difference (χ 2=4.339, P=0.037). Conclusion:Hip arthroscopy in the treatment of FAI in athletes can achieve satisfactory pain relief and motor function.
RESUMO
Objective:To explore the relationship among subjective well-being and depression-anxiety-stress and dispositional mindfulness in professional athletes, and the role of cognitive fusion and experiential avoidance and age in the relationship. Methods:Totally 423 professional athletes were selected and assessed with the Satisfac-tion with Life Scale(SWLS),Positive Affect Scale(PAS),Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale(DASS-21),Five Fac-et Mindfulness Questionnaire(FFMQ),Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire(CFQ),and Acceptance and Action Ques-tionnaire-Ⅱ(AAQ-Ⅱ).Results:After controlling for gender, the FFMQ scores were positively correlated with SWB scores(β=0.35),and negatively correlated with DASS-21 scores(β=-0.40).The scores of CFQ and AAQ-Ⅱplayed a sequential mediating role in the relationship between FFMQ scores and the scores of SWB and DASS-21(β=0.04,-0.12).Age moderated the relationship between the scores of FFMQ and SWB(β=-0.01).Conclu-sion:The subjective well-being and depression-anxiety-stress may be related to dispositional mindfulness in profes-sional athletes, and age could moderate the relationship between subjective well-being and dispositional mindful-ness.
