RESUMO

Introduction: The management of medical images has been gaining followers based on the advantages it offers for the diagnosis of diseases, which, like COVID-19, present with clinical manifestations that can be captured in the form of images. Objective: Take advantage of the quasi-periodicity of the principal components (PCs) in the decomposition into PCs of medical images, which represent dermatological manifestations in paucisymptomatic patients of COVID-19. Methods: Here, a set of photos was taken of one of the most frequent patterns in COVID-19, the maculopapular pattern, characterized by an erythmatopapular rash, and compression of one of the medical images was performed. Said compression was carried out in different ways: (1) using two PCs, (2) using both a periodic PC and a non-periodic PC, (3) using two periodic PCs, (4) using a single PC, and (5) using a single periodic PC. Result: The results of this research proved that it is possible to work with acceptable reconstructions of compressed images in the field of dermatology, without losing the quality and characteristics that allow to reach a correct diagnosis. In addition, this achievement permits to correctly classify many diseases without fear of being wrong. Conclusion: With the method presented, the use of a robust medical image compression technique that could be very useful in the field of health is proposed. The images allow the diagnosis of diseases such as COVID-19 in paucisymptomatic patients, understanding them allows minimizing their weight without losing quality, which facilitates their use and storage.

Skin diseases are a wide range of conditions that affect the skin, of bacterial, viral, fungal origin, allergic reaction, cancer, parasite, hereditary, idiopathic; due to their symptoms they can generate stigma. For this reason, the World Health Organization encourages Member States to engage in promotional activities to raise awareness in order to combat the discrimination perceived by patients with stigmatizing dermatological diseases (SDD), both for the community and in health establishments, which may have a negative impact on adherence to treatment. The objective of this study was to assess the use of endomarketing for adherence to DTS treatment. A quantitative investigation was carried out. An endomarketing survey was applied to 279 participants; In addition, with 147 patients with EDE, the perception of stigmatizing attitudes was investigated. The results showed a reach on endomarketing of 0.62 in direct attention personnel and 0.45 for indirect attention; The patients with the highest perception of stigmatizing attitudes were those who presented infectious-type skin conditions, mostly from indirect care. It is inferred that knowledge about DTS decreases the expressions of rejections. As alternatives for the training of personnel with greater job satisfaction, competence to manage and a high sense of corporate spirituality, which guarantees humanitarian attention to these patients, the use of endomarketing is suggested, to reconcile the objectives and interests of internal human resources. to the needs and expectations of patients with DTS(AU)

RESUMO

Abstract Plasmacytoid dendritic cells are part of the dendritic cells family and are a relevant link between innate and adaptive immunity. They are the most potent producers of type 1 interferon, generating antiviral response, stimulating macrophages and dendritic cells and inducing activation and migration of natural killer cells. Plasmacytoid dendritic cells also exert a role as antigen-presenting cells, promote T-lymphocyte responses, immunoregulation, plasma cells differentiation and antibody secretion. Even though plasmacytoid dendritic cells are not usually present in normal skin, their presence is detected in healing processes, viral infections, and inflammatory, autoimmune, and neoplastic diseases. In recent years, the presence of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in several dermatological diseases has been described, enhancing their potential role in the pathogenesis of such conditions. Future studies on the role of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in dermatology may lead to new therapeutic targets.

RESUMO

Introduction: Our country is fast becoming a developed country with improved life expectancy. The healthcare system should be prepared to manage medical conditions which are prevalent in the older age group. Skin diseases are commonly observed in the geriatric population. We seek to characterize the dermatological conditions affecting patients at the extremes of age. Methods: To determine the types of dermatological diseases affecting patients over 80 years of age, and to determine their clinical characteristics and comorbidities. Objectives: Subjects with photodamage were older, and had lower education and employment rates compared to subjects without photodamage. There was no significant difference in knowledge on the harmful effects of sun exposure and on sun protection or in sun avoidance behaviour (other than use of protective sunglasses) between the two groups, though more patients with photodamage felt that they take adequate sun protection measures. Of note, only a low percentage of subjects in both groups (24.5% of subjects with photodamage and 23.1% of subjects without photodamage) practise regular use of sunscreen. Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted at the Dermatology Unit, University Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Center (UKMMC). All patients aged ≥80 years who attended the Dermatology Clinic UKMMC in 2015 were identified from the clinic database. Their clinical notes were reviewed. Demography, clinical characteristics and dermatological diagnosis were recorded and analyzed using SPSS Version 22. Results: One hundred and three octogenarians were included in the study. Fifty one (49.5%) were females, and 52 (50.5%) were males. The age ranged from 80 to 89 years. The majority were Chinese, 76 (73.8%), 16 (15.5%) were Malays, 6 (5.8%) were Indians and remaining 5 (4.9%) were of other ethnicities. The most commonly seen diseases were endogenous eczema 46 (44.7%), cutaneous malignancy 10 (9.7%), psoriasis 8 (7.8%), bullous pemphigoid 7 (6.8%) and fungal infection 6 (5.8%). More than half of patients [25 (24.3%)] with endogenous eczema had unclassified eczema. Other conditions were seborrheic keratosis 5 (4.9%), adverse drug eruption 5 (4.9%), viral infections 4 (3.9%) and lichen amyloidosis 3 (2.9%). Comorbidities of the patients were 48 (46.6%) hypertension, 29 (28.2%) diabetes, 25 (24.3%) atherosclerosis related disease, 22 (21.4%) dyslipidemia, 9 (8.7%) chronic lung disease and 9 (8.7%) non-skin malignancy. Conclusions: Eczema is very common in elderly patients. In the majority of patients the clinical features of eczema are often not typical of endogenous eczema subtypes. We propose the term senectus eczema as a diagnosis, however its clinical characteristics has yet to be clearly delineated. Skin cancers, psoriasis, bullous pemphigoid, fungal infections, drug eruption and viral infection are other conditions which should not be missed in assessing these patients.

RESUMO

Background: The habit of cleaning the external auditory canal with cotton buds is a common practice of the masses. It has strong association with neurodermatitis and contact dermatitis of the external ear. It is also associated with acute otitis externa, rupture of tympanic membrane causing bleeding and temporary hearing loss in some cases. In many cases the injury will heal but damage to minuscule bones deep inside the ear can cause permanent deafness. Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the association of dermatological condition of external ear with the use of cotton buds. Materials and Methods: This case control study was done from January to October 2012 in the Ear Nose Throat Department of Pakistan Level III Hospital, Darfur, Sudan. Sixty seven patients with dermatological diseases of external ear were cases and 83 subjects without dermatological diseases of external ear were selected as controls. Results: Among 67 cases, 58 were cotton bud users and among 83 controls only 29 were cotton bud users. Different types of dermatological diseases were neurodermatitis (34.32%), otitis externa (28.36%), contact dermatitis (26.87%) and wax impaction (8.95%). Ninety three percent of cotton bud users were ignorant of harmful effects of this bad habit. Conclusion: There is a strong association of dermatological diseases of external ear with the use of cotton bud which should be discouraged by fortifying the warning by manufacturers and health education at various educational levels.

RESUMO

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) diagnostic methods contain inspection, auscultation-olfaction, inter-rogation and palpation. The clinical doctor collects information through the four diagnostic methods. Various symp-toms of the disease are especially used as the main evidence to determine different diseases and to identify the syndrome. Therefore, the TCM four diagnostic methods are the basic means of disease understanding in TCM. This article collected and analyzed clinical data in order to summarize the unique features and focused aspects of TCM four diagnostic methods application on TCM surgery and dermatology. This article was aimed to provide new ideas for TCM four diagnostic methods in the clinical diagnosis of dermatological diseases.

The cutaneous affections with hypopigmentation are one of the most common cases in our offices in Cuba and in the world. It is a common symptom in many of the dermatologic illnesses. After consulting many sources, it can be stated that there is a lack of studies of the incidence of this illness in children and adults. For these reason perspective and descriptive studies have been done to patients with hypocromy. The objective was to evaluate the behavior of the dermatologic affections with hypopigmentation in the health area. This study showed that the female gender was the most represented. The affections were more frequent in children, the pityriasis versicolor was predominant. The introduction of the photoprotection topic as a skin care in each appointment was remmended.
