RESUMO

Objective: To assess the growth and neurodevelopmental outcome of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants at corrected age of one year. Methods: This prospective cohort study enrolled VLBW infants delivered in a tertiary care hospital, and followed up till oneyear corrected age. The WHO Anthropo version 3.2.2 software was used to calculate weight for age, length for age, and head circumference z-score during follow up. Neurodevelopmental assessment was done using Developmental Assessment Scale for Indian Infants (DASII) at the age of one year. Results: The mean (SD) z-scores at one-year for weight for age, length for age and head circumference were -2.1 (1.1), -1.4 (1.03) and -2.2 (1.2), respectively. The mean (SD) DASII motor and mental scores were 90.8 (13.4) and 96.5 (13.2), respectively. Major and minor developmental abnormalities were noted in 9.4% and 18.2%, infants, respectively. Cerebral palsy was noted in 5.8% infants. Conclusion: VLBW infants showed impaired growth and significant developmental abnormalities at the corrected age of one year.

RESUMO

@#Objective To investigate the incidence and structure of mental disability in children with movement disorders. Methods 157 children with movement disorders (103 with cerebral palsy and 54 with mental retardation) were assessed with Gesell developmental schedules, and mental disability was identified as development quotient (DQ)<75. Results The incidence of intelligence disability was 92.2% in children with cerebral palsy, including 91.2% in spastic type, and 100% in dyskinetic, mixed or dystonic type. The development of gross motor was retarded in children with spastic cerebral palsy, and gross and fine motor in children with dyskinetic cerebral palsy, compared with those with mental retardation. Conclusion It is important to focus the mental development in children with movement disorders, especially the dyskinetic cerebral palsy. Gesell developmental schedules should be used carefully to assess the mental development in children with movement disorder.

RESUMO

Objective To study the effects of perinatal and postnatal cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection on infantile physical development and nerves mental growth. Methods We observed forty-eight cases of perinatal and postnatal CMV infection infants and twenty-two cases of non-CMV infected infants. We compared the physical development between two groups at birth ,3 months and 1 year of age, and evaluated development quotient (DQ) at 1 year of age. Results There were no significant differences of baby length, weight, head circumference between two groups at birth and 3 months (P > 0.05). The averages of baby length, weight, and head circumference were all in the normal range, which showed no significant differences between two groups(P > 0. 05). There were no significant differences in DQ of rough movement, accurate movement, adaptability, language and sociality ability between two groups at 1 year of age (P > 0.05). The averages of total DQ were in the normal range, which showed no significant difference between two groups as well (P > 0. 05). According to the evaluation hierarchies, DQ values of two groups were mostly in normal level range, and there also was no significant difference(x2 = 1. 026, P > 0. 05). Conclusion The perinatal and postnatal cytomegalovirus(CMV) infection has no significant adverse effects on infantile physical development and neuro-psychological development.
