RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#To review the current applications of machine learning in orthopaedic trauma and anticipate its future role in clinical practice.@*METHODS@#A comprehensive literature review was conducted to assess the status of machine learning algorithms in orthopaedic trauma research, both nationally and internationally.@*RESULTS@#The rapid advancement of computer data processing and the growing convergence of medicine and industry have led to the widespread utilization of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Currently, machine learning plays a significant role in orthopaedic trauma, demonstrating high performance and accuracy in various areas including fracture image recognition, diagnosis stratification, clinical decision-making, evaluation, perioperative considerations, and prognostic risk prediction. Nevertheless, challenges persist in the development and clinical implementation of machine learning. These include limited database samples, model interpretation difficulties, and universality and individualisation variations.@*CONCLUSION@#The expansion of clinical sample sizes and enhancements in algorithm performance hold significant promise for the extensive application of machine learning in supporting orthopaedic trauma diagnosis, guiding decision-making, devising individualized medical strategies, and optimizing the allocation of clinical resources.

RESUMO

Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma(CJOT) was started in S eptember, 1999 as a quarterly of 80 pages. It was published domestically and abr oad in 2002. CJOT has been included in the the Statistics-Source Periodical of Chinese Scientific Papers as one of Chinese Scientific Core Periodicals since 20 03. In the past five years, CJOT was edited for five volumes, 17 issues, in whi ch 568 papers were published. CJOT has promptly reported the important advances in clinical practice and scientific research on Orthopaedics and Traumatology i n China and the newest devlopment in the world. CJOT has been exchanged with 18 international journals. The six programs or symporia on new techniques of Orthop aedics and Traumatology were sponsored or co-sponsored by CJOT. The general edi torial office of CJOT is located at Nanfang Hospital, Guangzhou. The Beijing edi torial office of CJOT and Shanghai editorial office of CJOT, have been respectiv ely set up at Jishuitan Hospital, Beijing and at sixth Peoples Hospital of Sha nghai in 2003. CJOT has set up a good co-operation with AO and AO Alumni Associ ation Chinese Chapter. CJOT will be expanded from 2004 into a monthly publicatio n of 120 pages per issue so as to better facilitate the academic exchange and co -operation among surgeons and researchers of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in C hina, even in the world.

The research was carried out with family caregivers who were looking after the elderly with orthopaedic trauma. The study purpose was to characterize the main family caregivers of the elderly suffering from deambulatory dependence due to orthopaedic trauma, identify the care carried out at home, by the family caregiver, and also, identify and describe the main caregiver feelings related to the elderly care with deambulatory dependence. The sample was formed by twenty three main family caregivers, in which was ascertained the predominance of women-daughters as the main caregivers, and the care implemented by them at home. This care was help with feeding, bathing, personal hygiene, deambulation with accessories such as: crutches and walkers, to assist the elderly to move from bed, to a wheelchair (or a wheelchair commode) and back to bed, to dress inferior limbs and shoes, skin care, surgical wound area care, to give medicines at the right time and also urinary and fecal elimination help, by taking the elderly to the bathroom by or providing the right recipient. This care was carried out along with domestic chores and other labour activities. The caregivers showed the aspect of tiredness and exhaustion however, the obligation with the family, love and responsibility were the reasons that obligated from to care for the elderly person within the family environment.
