RESUMO

This study sought to evaluate how a training program on spiritual care affected physicians’ confidence, self-reported practice, and attitudes in caring for terminally ill cancer patients who express meaninglessness in living. Questionnaires were distributed to participating physicians before and after the training program. A total of 30 physicians completed the program. Confidence and self-reported practice regarding communication with terminally ill cancer patients who express meaninglessness significantly improved after the training: effect size, 1.3 (P=0.0001) and 1.2 (P=0.0001), respectively. Moreover, physician-reported helplessness significantly decreased (effect size, 0.8; P=0.0001) and positive appraisal and willingness to participate in caring for terminally ill cancer patients experiencing meaninglessness significantly improved (effect size, 0.8, P=0.0001; effect size, 0.4, P=0.0001, respectively). Overall, 96–100% of the participating physicians reported the program was useful for understanding the concept of spiritual care and for learning a practical approach for caring for such patients.

RESUMO

OBJETIVO: Identificar las necesidades de aprendizaje presentadas por los profesores para impartir la asignatura Morfofisiología Humana IV, y los criterios que tienen sobre la reunión de Preparación Metodológica en su preparación y desempeño docente. MÉTODOS: Se encuestaron 40 profesores del Nuevo Programa de Formación de Médicos (NPFM). RESULTADOS: Mostraron que el nivel de dificultad presentado en el desarrollo de la asignatura estuvo entre las categorías bajo y medio y que los criterios sobre la reunión de preparación metodológica son positivos. CONCLUSIONES: Se identificaron necesidades de aprendizaje en relación con la autopreparación docente, la impartición de la asignatura y su vinculación con los problemas de salud de la comunidad; de otra parte se reconoce como positiva la realización de la reunión de preparación metodológica como forma de trabajo metodológico


OBJECTIVE: To identify the learning needs proposed by professors to give the IV Human Morphophysiology subject and their criteria on meeting for Methodological Training in their teaching performance and training. METHODS: Forty professors from the New Program of Physicians Training (NPPT) were polled. RESULTS: It was possible to demonstrate that the difficulty level showed in the subject development was low and middle and that the criteria on the methodological training meeting are positive. CONCLUSIONS: Learning needs were identified in relation to teaching self-training, the subject giving and its link with community health problems; besides it is recognized as positive the carry out of the methodological training meeting as a methodological task

En el Nuevo Programa de Formación de Médicos Latinoamericanos el modelo pedagógico concibe a un médico insertado en la atención primaria como el profesor principal que conduce el proceso formativo desde el inicio de la carrera. El papel del especialista en Medicina General Integral en su función docente educativa ha sido decisivo, ha adquirido una nueva dimensión, se ha tornado en el docente por excelencia, por su desempeño exitoso como médico y por sus condiciones políticas, morales, éticas y humanísticas. Este programa ha llevado a la incorporación como profesores a miles de médicos, la mayoría especialistas en Medicina General Integral, pero sin previas experiencias docentes. En estas circunstancias se ha incluido en el sistema de Preparación Profesoral el diplomado de Educación Médica como elemento estratégico para garantizar un proceso docente educativo con la necesaria calidad


The New Program of Latin American Physicians Training considers the physician involved in primary care as the main professor managing the formative process from the onset of career. The role of specialist in Integral General Medicine in its teaching function has been essential, has acquired a new dimension, has becomes the professor par excellence, according to its successful performance as physician and by its political, moral, ethical and human conditions. Present program has allowed that thousand of physicians be professor, most are specialists in Integral General Medicine, but without a previous teaching experience. Under these circumstances the Qualification of Medical Education is included into the Profesoral Training as a strategic element to guarantee an educational teaching process with the necessary quality

RESUMO

La evaluación de las competencias clínicas en el Nuevo Programa de Formación de Médicos (NPFM) ha constituido un dilema desde los inicios de este programa. La Evaluación Clínica Estructurada por Objetivos (ECOE) viene a dar solución a esta problemática en este nuevo contexto educacional. Teniendo en cuenta todas las ventajas de este método se aplicó en el Policlínico Facultad José Maceo Grajales como examen práctico ordinario de la asignatura Clínica I. Para el diseño de esta evaluación se tuvieron en cuenta distintas fases (Planificación, el día previo al examen, el día del examen y el día después del examen). Se explica cómo se llevo a cabo cada fase de las anteriores.


The assessment of clinical competences in the New Program of Physician Training Program (NPPT) is dilemma from its onset. The Structural Clinical Assessment by OBJECTIVE (SCAA) solves this problem in this new educational context. Considering all advantages of this method, it was applied in José Maceo Grajales Faculty Polyclinic like a usual practical examination of Clinic I as subject. For design of this assessment we took into account different phases (planning, prior day, the present day, and the day after examination). We explain how each phase of the previous ones was carried out.
