General Objective: To establish the opinion of students and teachers on the action of teaching in the medical career of the Medical School, School of Nursing, Nutrition and Medical Technology, UMSA. DesignCross section, by enquiry Study Population 619 students and 49 teachers of the medical career Methods and Measurements An instrument was used which was the product of an investigation on the evaluation of teachers in 17 Spanish universities (Lickert questionnaire of 39 items and 8 categories). We worked with an alfa of 0.05. The samples were taken in an accidental manner. The following analysis was made: a. Calculation and comparison of the frequencies of the categories and b. calculation and comparison of the arithmetic average in items and categories, in teachers and students. Results and Conclusions Questions of the Lickert type were made with the following range of measurement: minimal negative value 1, and maximal positive value 5. The following frequencies were found in students and teachers: 1 = 7.02%, 2 = 23.72%, 3 = 46.66%, 4 = 19.84%, 5 = 2.76%. The general average of the two groups was 3.78, the teachers reaching a general value of 4.28 and the students of 2.88.The positive opinion of teachers and students show the agreement with the service rendered, however there exist marked differences between the opinion of students and teachers, which shows that corrective actions need to be made in the categories "fulfillment of obligations" and "practical training". These results are supported by the qualitative part of the study. Two qualitative categories of interest were generated: a. the demand of standardization, the objectives of learning, the time, the forms of teaching, the evaluation, b. the necessity to individualize each teacher, since the great limitation for this study was the generalization.

RESUMO

A special Students' Committee on Medical Education was established by the Student Union of Nippon Medical School. The members of this committee are all volunteers and have carried out several plans to improve the educational environment at our school. In 1999, the Students' Committee on Medical Education proposed holding joint meetings with the Education Committee of Nippon Medical School. The meeting was to allow communication between students and teachers for improving the curriculum. The volunteer faculty members of the Education Committee and students have held joint meetings seven times from November 1999 through February 2001. Discussions between students and teachers have changed ideas on both sides and have led to improvements in some educational programs, such as clinical internship during the summer vacation.
