Abstract On October 5, 2019, an individual from Catharus fuscescens was captured, as part of the monthly sampling of the project Monitoring of birdlife populations in the department of Loreto - Peru conducted by the Loreto Bird Observatory - LBO in the San Rafael community, Indiana district, department of Loreto. This capture represents the first documentation of C. fuscescens for the department of Loreto, confirming the suggested condition of a rare migrant in the northeastern end of Peru as it moves south as its migration season to South America.

RESUMO

Avian trematodes, Urogonimus turdi (Digenea: Leucochloridiidae), were collected from the intestine of wild birds, Zoothera aurea, 2013–2017 in the Daejeon Metropolitan City, Korea. The body was ellipsoidal, attenuated and/or round ends, 1,987–2,120 long and 819–831 μm wide. The oral sucker was subterminal, rounded anteriorly, and 308–425×351–432 μm in size; the prepharynx and esophagus were almost lacking; pharynx was well-developed, 142–179×78–170 μm in size; intestine narrow, bifurcating just after pharynx, ascending to the oral sucker before looping posteriorly and terminating near the posterior end; ventral sucker larger, in almost median, 536–673×447–605 μm and approximately 1.5 times larger than oral sucker. A phylogenetic tree constructed with 18S ribosomal RNA showed inter- and intraspecific relationships. Based on these morphological and molecular findings, we report here a U. turdi from White’s thrushes in Korea.

This essay's purpose is to examine some aspects of "Canção do exílio" [Exile's song], written by Gonçalves Dias, a renowned Brazilian poet. In his poem, he combines some artistic issues of his time and ways of seeing Brazilian life. This nostalgic song of exiled people evokes the nature of their homeland by using a complex arrangement that mixes cultured and popular language. Meanwhile, "Exile's song" emphasizes the palm tree and the red-bellied thrush (or rufous, bird) through the detail. The fusion of these aspects adds enough tension to the poem so that it allows some contradictory approaches on nationality to arise. The study also deals with some of its parodies, which show different assimilations of the original poem within the field of Brazilian literature.

RESUMO

Oral candidiasis is a broad term which describes the fungal infections mainly caused by the yeasts belonging to the genus Candida. In developing countries, it is the third most common presenting compliant of the HIV-infected patients. Varied incidences have been observed depending on age and predisposing factors. Oropharyngeal candidiasis and dysphonia are among the local side effects of the use of several different topical steroids for the treatment of asthma. Long-term use of inhaled steroids renders oropharyngeal mucosa to opportunistic fungal infections by their local immunosuppressive actions. Here, we report a case of a 55-year-old male chronic asthmatic patient, who was on a steroid inhaler and presented with oral candidiasis.

RESUMO

Objective To study the clinical effect of different doses of low concentrations nystatin on moderate thrush in children. Methods 90 cases of moderate thrush in children from February 2013 to February 2016 in zhejiang xiaoshan hospital were selected, and were divided into the high-dose group (n=45) and the low-dose group (n=45) according to random number table, the high-dose group was treated with 200 thousands U/mL nystatin solution, the low-dose group was treated with 100 thousands U/mL nystatin solution. The treatment effect, adverse reactions and relapse,of two groups were compared. Results On the 3rd and 7th day after treatment, the levels of salivary sIgA in two groups were increased (P<0.05),the level of sIgA in saliva decreased at 15 and 30 days after treatment (P <0.05),the levels of sIgA in saliva at 3,7,15,and 30 days after treatment were significantly higher in the high-dose group than in the low-dose group; The time of improvement of clinical symptoms, the disappearance time of clinical symptoms, the weak positive time of laboratory examination and the negative time of laboratory examination in high dose group were all lower than in low-dose group (P<0.05);the total effective rate in high dose group was 95.56%which was significantly higher than low dose group 75.56%(P<0.05). In the process of the treatment, there was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of adverse reactions.Follow-up of three months, the recurrence rate of high-dose group was 2.22%,which was significantly lower than that of low-dose group 15.56% (P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with the conventional low-dose,high-dose low concentrations nystatin treatment of moderate thrush in children with more significant effect, the adverse reactions and recurrence rate are low.

RESUMO

41 cases of infant thrush in observation group were treated by 10% rhubarb decoction wipe on the affected area followed by pow-dered “alum 3 +goldthread 2 +borneol 1”coating;41 cases in the control group were treated by 1% ~2% baking soda scrub on the affect-ed area followed by glycerol wipe containing 50 000 to 100 000 units/ml of nystatin. The efficiency was 95.12%(39 /41)and 75.61%(31 /41)in observation and control groups respectively(P <0.05).The external use of chinese medicine is effective in the treatment of in-fant thrush.

RESUMO

The study determined the prevalence of Candida albicans in the mouth of 509 Filipino children (3 mo - 10 yrs) who did not show any detectable lesions. A sterile cotton swab was used to take materials from the mouth for mycological examination. Species of C. albicans was identified using the method of BakerspigelCandida organisms were isolated from 162 (31.8%) of the 509 children studied. C. albicans was the organisms isolated from 119 (21.4%) of these children. This finding presents a difficulty in making diagnosis of oral moniliasis. The appearance of characteristic lesions and the repeated isolation of C. albicans in large number are deemed necessary in the diagnosis of oral moniliasis
