RESUMO

Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine has been used to prevent and cure disease in China for thousands of years and has gained global interest in recent decades. The Erding formula is a Chinese Pharmacopeia (ChP)-listed herbal preparation used for treating sore throat, carbuncles and boils. Esculetin is a ChP quality control (QC) marker for these indications. A previous study found that a new indication, hyperuricemia, can be added to the Erding formula. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate whether the traditionally used marker, esculetin, still has bioactivity for hyperuricemia, which is substantially different from the original indications. The study analyzed the quantity of esculetin by high-performance liquid chromatography, assessed the therapeutic effect of esculetin using animal model, and then characterized esculetin and its metabolites in serum via ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The results showed that the esculetin content in the aqueous Erding extract was 0.26±0.05% (w/w). Both the Erding extract and esculetin significantly reduced uric acid levels. Six metabolites of esculetin were identified in mice serum. This study revealed a rational scientific approach to prove esculetin is a reliable bioactive and QC marker for Erding formula in hyperuricemia treatment which contributed to ensure product quality and therapeutic efficacy.

RESUMO

The pesticide residues in traditional Chinese herbal medicines have seriously affected its safety of quality and international reputation, and have been widely concerned by the public and regulatory authorities. With the increasing demand for high-quality green Chinese medicine products, the frequency of quantitative determination of pesticide residues in traditional Chinese medicine products by the regulatory authorities will also increase significantly. It is imperative to establish a series of quantitative methods for pesticide residue analysis that are fast, simple, high-throughput, and low-cost. This paper mainly summarized the research status of pesticide residues analysis in Chinese herbal medicines, summarized the difficulties encountered in the analysis of pesticide residues in Chinese herbal medicines, and introduced the advantages of the retention index principle applied to the analysis of pesticide residues in Chinese herbal medicines. This paper highlights the research progress of retention index principle combined with the Smart Database-Pesticides database applied to three exemplary examples, including: the quantitative determination of 12 pyrethroid pesticide compounds in Anisi Stellati Fructus, the quantitative determination of 74 pesticide compounds in Chuanxiong Rhizoma, and quantitative determination of 130 pesticide compounds in Panacis Quinquefolii Radix. The purpose of this paper is to make retention index principle more popular in the rapid analysis of pesticide residues in traditional Chinese herbal medicines.

RESUMO

Objective: To analyze the curative effects of traditional Chinese herbal decoction on breast carcinoma patients in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by meta-analysis to provide evidences for doctors in treating breast carcinoma patients who were in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by traditional Chinese herbal decoction.Method: Published papers about the curative effects of traditional Chinese herbal decoction on doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in breast carcinoma patients in clinical random control experiment were collected. To analyze the prescription rules and do metaanalysis in the eligible ones by the software RevMan5.2. Evaluate clinical effects of traditional Chinese medicine in treating breast carcinoma patients who were in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. Results: Ten references and 648 cases in total meeting eligibility criteria were included. Compared with pure anthracycline-based chemotherapy drugs, the breast carcinoma patients who received Anthracycline-based chemo therapy drugs with traditional Chinese medicine, their ECG changes less, their difference was statistically significant (OR=0.23, 95% CI (0.16, 0.16), P <0.00001) . They had better cardiac function. the difference was statistically significant (OR=0.18, 95% CI (0.09, 0.09), P <0.00001) . Their left ventricular systolic function improved. Their difference was statistically significant (MD = 3.82, 95%CI (0.29, 0.29), P=0.03 < 0.05) . The myocardial enzyme spectrum, cardiac troponin I and myocardial troponin T were improved. Conclusion: To some extent, decoction of Chinese herbal medicine has effects on breast carcinoma patients with myocardial anthracycline-based drugs damage.

RESUMO

This article sorted out research results of traditional Chinese herbal medicine at home and abroad, cleared up confirmed traditional Chinese herbal medicine with estrogen activity, analyzed the function classifications, and reviewed relevant clinical research progress. It also discussed the concept and connoation of traditional Chinese herbal medicine with estrogen activity, and proposed that the research on traditional Chinese herbal medicine with estrogen activity should clarify whether “bidirectional effect” establishes and the preconditions and requirements of the establishment, with a purpose to solve the security problems about hormone dependency caused by TCM therapy. Meanwhile, the problems about quick-screening experiments, standard establishment, and the transformation of experimental achievements to clinical application are waiting to be solved.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE:To determine the antimicrobial activity of alcoholic e xtracts of47traditional Chinese herbal medicines in vitro.METHODS:Antibiotic drug sensitive tests of Escherichia coli and Bacillus pyocyaneus were conducted,al?coholic extracts of47Chinese herbal medicines were prepared, which were subjected to bicteriostatic tests in vitro by agar spread routine method.RESULTS:Among the47traditonal Chinese herbal medicines alcoholic extracts,11of which did have antimicrobial activity against escherichia coli, pseudomonas aeruginosa and blastomyces albicans in different degree;among which, the antimicrobial activity of the alcoholic extracts of paeoniae radix and granatum to drug resistance bacteria were the highest, the alcoholic extracts of paeoniae radix showed strong inhibitory activities to the above3bacterium,especially to the resistant organisms with the minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC)at1.3,1.1and1.8mg/ml respectively; The antimi?crobial activities of alchoholic extracts of granatum against the above3bacterium were also high with the MIC at8.3,3.6and2.3mg/ml respectively.CONCLUSION:The alcoholic extracts of paeoniae radix and granatum have broad spectrum of an?timicrobial activity and which have antimicrobial effect to drug resistance bacteria.
