We present our retrospective analysis of malignant breast tumours seen at King Fahd University Hospital between 1982 to 1987. 1,658 Saudi nationals were admitted with different malignant conditions, out of this 69 (4.1%) females suffered from breast cancer. Majority of the patients were between the age 31-50 years and half of them presented within the first 6 months of the symptoms. All the patients were married, multiparous and had breast fed their new born. Our study suggests that the incidence of breast cancer among Saudi women is low, multiparous and breast feeding in no way gives any protection to the patients and ductal carcinoma remains the commonest histological type of breast tumour.

RESUMO

Serum Leucine Aminopeptidase (LAP) was studied in 25 patients of breast tumors, and compared with 50 age matched controls. Clinical staging was done in 13 cases of breast carcinoma. Serum LAP was increased but not significantly in stage I (P less than 0.1), while in stage II & III, significant increase was observed (P less than 0.05), but a sharp peak was noted in stage IV with metastasis in liver (P less than 0.001). Serum LAP values were correlated with histological sub-types of breast carcinoma. Highest serum LAP values were observed in filtrating duct carcinoma with productive fibrosis (P less than 0.01), followed by medullary carcinoma and the enzyme values were slightly decreased in intraductal carcinomas.

RESUMO

The growth pattern of 137 cancers of surgically removed stomach specimen were studied in relation to histological type and stromal reaction, namely, the degree of lymphocytic infiltration and fibrosis, and several characteristies were noted. Generally, stromal fibrosis increased more in the expanding type of growth of the cancer while the degree of lymphocytic infiltration did not. As an invasive growth pattern of cancer 5 directly affect on the prognosis of the stomach cancer, a graph was designed which can be used to help to predict the degree to which the cancer may be experted to have a greater tendency to expand locally or invade deeper. However, an increase in the number of metastatic lymph node parallels an increase in the size of the cancer.
