RESUMEN
El cáncer de cuello uterino es un importante problema de salud pública, que toma peso especialmente cuando se pretende mejorar la salud materna como uno de los objetivos de desarrollo para el milenio en Colombia. Es el tercer cáncer más frecuente en el mundo y el segundo en las mujeres de los países en vías de desarrollo. En Colombia es la principal neoplasia maligna en mujeres, con aproximadamente 6,800 casos nuevos por año y mortalidad de 18.2 casos por 100,000 mujeres.
ABSTRACT
Cervical cancer is a major public health problem, which takes weight especially when it is intended to improve maternal health as one of the development goals for the millennium in Colombia. It is the third most frequent cancer in the world and the second in women in developing countries. In Colombia, it is the main malignancy in women, with approximately 6,800 new cases per year and mortality of 18.2 cases per 100,000 women
