RESUMEN

El Registro de Cáncer de Bahía Blanca abarcaba históricamente los 15 partidos de la Región Sanitaria I, con una población, según el Censo del 2001, de 627.507 habitantes. Por razones económicas durante el último periodo, y a pesar de nuestro gran esfuerzo, sólo hemos podido recolectar, controlar y verificar los datos correspondientes al Partido de Bahía Blanca. El objetivo de la presente publicación fue resumir los resultados del Registro de Cáncer de Bahía Blanca entre 1998-2002. La tarea del registro es analizar e interpretar los datos de cáncer periódicamente, para proporcionar información sobre la incidencia y las características de cánceres específicos en distintos segmentos de la población y sobre las variaciones temporales de su incidencia. Tal información es la fuente primaria, no sólo para la investigación epidemiológica sobre los agentes determinantes del cáncer, sino también para la planificación y evaluación de los servicios sanitarios de prevención, diagnóstico y tratamiento de la enfermedad.

ABSTRACT

Bahía Blanca Cancer Registry historically included the 15 counties of Health Region I, with a population, according to the 2001 Census, of 627,507 inhabitants. Due to economic reasons, during the last period, in spite of our great effort, we have only been able to collect, control, and verify the data corresponding to Bahía Blanca county. The objective of this publication is to summarize the results obtained by the Bahía Blanca Cancer Registry during the period 1998-2002. The work of the Registry consists in analyzing and processing cancer data periodically, so as to supply information on the incidence and characteristics of specific cancers in different population segments and on the temporary variations of its incidence. Such information is the primary source, not only for epidemiological research on cancer determining agents, but also for planning and evaluating the health services needed for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of this disease.
