RESUMO
O objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar as mulheres varredoras de rua, verificar seu conhecimento sobre o corrimento vaginal, colpocitoligia oncológica (CO) e auto exame de mama (AEM), verificar a freqüência com que realizam tais exames e identificar as áreas de necessidade de orientações sobre a saúde ginecológica. A coleta de dados foi realizada de Abril a início de Julho de 1997, com varredoras de rua da região central de Santo Amaro, São Paulo-SP, por intermédio de um formulário específico constituído de perguntas abertas e fechadas. A população foi constituída por 53 mulheres, a maioria com nenhuma ou pouca escolaridade, com idade variando de 27 a 63 anos tendo como média de idade 47,2 anos, naturais de outros Estados, tempo médio no emprego de 9,5 anos. Pelos resultados verificamos que elas desconhecem ou possuem conhecimento insatisfatório no tocante aos procedimentos e à finalidade da CO e do AEM. São poucas as mulheres que procuram os serviços de saúde para controle, sendo mais comum a procura para problemas emergentes. As áreas de necessidades apontadas são as relativas aos cuidados higiênicos, medidas profiláticas do corrimento vaginal, importância e conhecimento sobre CO e AEM. A autora preconiza e enfatiza a importância de maior atuação dos profissionais de saúde, principalmente a ginecológica no sentido de desenvolver a capacidade para o auto cuidado e informar de forma efetiva sobre a necessidade dos exames preventivos para a saúde de modo geral.
ABSTRACT
The objective of this study was to characterize the female street sweepers, to check their knowledge about vaginal flowing and preventive exams or previous identification of uterine cervical and mammary cancer, to check the frequency they make these exams and the necessary areas and orientation about gynecological health. The data collection was undertaken from April to beginning of July 1997, with female street sweepers of Santo Amaro's central area, São Paulo, through an specific questionaire consisted of open and close questions. Some answers were grouped in classes accordingly to their similarity in order to facilitate the analysis, they were presented also in graphs and table of contents. The population was composed by 52 women, with low social and economic levels, most of them are illiterate or with a low degree of illiteracy and ages from 27 to 63, the average is 47,2. By the results we can affirm that they are not used to take care of their gynecological health. Or they don't know anything, or have an slight knowledge about the procedures, the frequency of oncological cytologic cancer exam neither of the deep examination on mammas, even on women submitted to it. They don't know almost anything about body's personal care because of negative previous experiences, prejudices, tabbos, which cause difficulties on its realization. Few women look for health services regularly but it is more commom for emergency problems. The fields related to the necessity ofintimate hygene, discharge's preventive measures and the importance of regular preventive oncologic cytological exams are the most important. The author emphasizes the importance of health professionals performance's improvement in order the fullfil the necessities above as well as to develop the capacity of those women's self-care and inform them about the necessity of preventive exams.
