Comunicação como instrumento terapêutico para pacientes submetidos ao transplante de medula óssea: revisão / Communication as a therapeutic instrument for patients submitted to bone marrow transplantation: a review

ABSTRACT

Bone marrow transplantation (BMT) causes psychological effects in patients, especially in terms of autonomy and coping with the situation; therapeutic communication can help patients to recover these. This integrative literature review aims to identify evidence of using communication interventions in patients submitted to BMT. The terms communication and BMT were used to select articles from the following databases MEDLINE/PubMed, Cinahl and Lilacs. Nine articles were analyzed, distributed between 1991 and 2006, 44% of which came from the United States and 55% were quantitative studies. The results showed the importance of communication among health professionals and patients as a contributing factor to increase commitment in treatment, to facilitate the understanding of the processes involved and to identify their needs, so as to humanize care and formulate strategies to decrease or even put an end to undesirable moments.

RESUMO

O transplante de medula óssea (TMO) acarreta efeitos psicológicos no paciente, em especial quanto a autonomia e o enfrentamento da situação; a comunicação terapêutica pode auxiliar o paciente a resgatá-los. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura com objetivo de identificar as evidências do uso de intervenções comunicacionais em pacientes submetidos ao TMO. A seleção dos artigos utilizou os termos comunicação e TMO, nas bases de dados MEDLINE/PubMed, Cinahl e Lilacs. Foram analisados 9 artigos distribuídos entre os anos de 1991 a 2006, sendo 44% originários dos Estados Unidos e 55% estudos quantitativos. Os resultados mostraram a importância da comunicação entre profissionais da saúde e pacientes, como um fator contribuinte para aumentar o envolvimento com o tratamento, facilitar a compreensão dos processos envolvidos e identificar suas necessidades, de forma a humanizar o atendimento e formular estratégias para diminuir ou até mesmo cessar seus momentos indesejáveis.
