Importância atribuída pelas mulheres à realização do exame Papanicolaou / Importance attributed by women to the Pap Smear

RESUMO

O exame Papanicolaou é uma importante estratégia para controle do câncer do colo de útero. Objetivou-se identificar a importância, atribuída pelas mulheres da Estratégia Saúde da Família Maria Fernandes de Souza, da cidade de Janaúba, Minas Gerais, à realização do exame preventivo Papanicolaou. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo de natureza qualitativa, dirigido a 25 mulheres com idade entre 25 e 64 anos, que se submeteram ao exame no 2º semestre de 2015. Os dados foram coletados entre março e abril de 2016 por meio de uma entrevista semiestruturada. Os resultados revelaram que as mulheres consideram o exame importante para diagnosticar precocemente a neoplasia e outras doenças, associam o exame citopatológico ao exame clínico das mamas. Admitem já ter recebidos informações sobre a importância do exame preventivo, porém não recordam. Concluiu-se que há necessidade de desenvolver ações de educação em saúde, para que as mulheres compreendam melhor a importância do exame e busquem sua realização como preconizado pelo Ministério da Saúde.

ABSTRACT

The Pap smear is an important strategy to control cervical cancer. The objective of this study was to identify the importance attributed by the women of the Family Health Strategy Maria Fernandes de Souza, from the city of Janaúba, Minas Gerais, to the Papanicolaou preventive exam. It is a descriptive study of a qualitative nature, aimed at 25 women aged 25- 64 years, who underwent the examination in the second half of 2015. Data were collected between March and April 2016 through a semi- structured interview. The results revealed that women consider the examination important for early diagnosis of neoplasia and other diseases, they associate cytopathological examination with clinical examination of the breasts. They admit they have already received information about the importance of the preventive exam, but they do not remember. It was concluded that there is a need to develop health education actions so that women can better understand the importance of the examination and seek their achievement as recommended by the Ministry of Health.
