ABSTRACT

Objective:

the aim of the research was to characterize underage women in a center specializing in addiction during the years 2009 and 2014.

Method:

this was a retrospective, descriptive study of medical records with a quantitative focus. The database of the National Comprehensive Care Center for Addictions Minors' Program, located in San José and part of the IAFA, was reviewed and the study considered only admissions recorded between 1st January and 31st December of the years 2009 2014. These years were selected as the data was the most complete.

Results:

the study found no evidence of any relationship between the sociodemographic variables and drug use, with the exception of 'age', in the case of which variable it was shown that the population aged between 10 and 14 were twice as likely to complete the treatment given by said Program.

Conclusion:

the results enable us to note the importance of early detection for initiating treatment as early as possible. More research is needed on the topic, so as to reinforce awareness, decrease demand and reduce harm from the use and abuse of psychoactive substances.
