Conocimientos sobre las principales adicciones y su manejo integral por estudiantes de Medicina / Knowledge on the main addictions and their comprehensive management by medical students

RESUMEN

RESUMEN Fundamento la drogodependencia constituye un problema de salud pública cuya dimensión está ligada al alto porcentaje de personas implicadas en el consumo, de ahí la importancia de su conocimiento y manejo desde la formación del futuro médico. Objetivo: identificar el nivel de conocimientos sobre las principales adicciones y su manejo integral en estudiantes de tercer año de Medicina. Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Santiago de Cuba, Facultad No. 1. Se utilizaron métodos teóricos analítico-sintético, inductivo-deductivo, histórico-lógico y el tránsito de lo abstracto a lo concreto; y empíricos análisis documental y encuesta en forma de cuestionario a los estudiantes. Los datos obtenidos fueron analizados utilizando la estadística descriptiva. Resultados: el nivel de conocimientos acerca de las principales adicciones y su manejo integral, es insuficiente en estudiantes de tercer año de Medicina, tanto para la adicción a la marihuana como a la cocaína, se constató un predominio de respuestas inadecuadas relacionadas con la forma de consumo y la identificación de signos y síntomas que orienten sobre una intoxicación aguda, así como el reconocimiento de las complicaciones del consumo y su manejo de forma integral. Conclusiones: el insuficiente conocimiento sobre principales adicciones y su manejo integral en estudiantes de Medicina reclaman revisar esta temática desde etapas tempranas en la formación del futuro médico, teniendo en cuenta la importancia de esta problemática en el contexto social actual.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Background: drug dependence constitutes a public health problem whose dimension is linked to the high percentage of people involved in consumption, hence the importance of its knowledge and management through the training of the future doctor. Objective: to identify the level of knowledge about the main addictions and their comprehensive management in third year students of Medicine. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out at Santiago de Cuba University of Medical Sciences, Faculty No. 1. Theoretical methods were used analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical and the transition from the abstract to the concrete; and empirical documentary analysis and survey in the form of a student questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: the level of knowledge on the main addictions and their comprehensive management is insufficient in the students, either for the addiction to marijuana or to cocaine, a predominance of inadequate answers related to the form of consumption and the identification of signs and symptoms was verified that give doctors the idea on acute intoxication, as well as the recognition of the complications of consumption and its management in a comprehensive way. Conclusions: the insufficient knowledge on the main addictions and their comprehensive management in medical students demand to review this subject from early stages in the training of the future doctor, taking into account the importance of this problem in the current social context.
