RESUMEN

Introducción:

la seguridad del paciente se considera una prioridad en la asistencia sanitaria.

Objetivo:

evaluar las dimensiones de la cultura de seguridad del paciente y establecer áreas de mejora.

Método:

estudio descriptivo transversal en el Centro de Investigaciones Médico Quirúrgico (CIMEQ) desde mayo 2014 hasta enero 2016. Se recogieron resultados de la cultura de seguridad del paciente en 18 profesionales del quirófano, se utilizó la encuesta Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture de la Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality adaptada al castellano. Se analizaron las respuestas positivas y negativas a los 50 ítems y la calificación global de seguridad. Se estimaron distribuciones de frecuencia, con Intervalo de Confianza al 95 por ciento.

Resultado:

el 95 por ciento de los encuestados calificó de positivo el grado global de seguridad. Como fortalezas se destacan el trabajo en equipo dentro del quirófano, el aprendizaje organizacional y las expectativas y acciones de la dirección de la unidad. Como oportunidades de mejora se identificaron la respuesta no punitiva a los errores y retroalimentación y comunicación sobre errores.

Conclusiones:

la utilización de esta herramienta facilita la difusión de forma eficiente de la cultura de seguridad del paciente en el quirófano, así como la identificación de las fortalezas y debilidades del área(AU)
ABSTRACT

Introduction:

Patient safety is considered a health care priority.

Objective:

To evaluate the dimensions of patient's safety culture and establish areas for improvement.

Method:

A cross-sectional descriptive study at the Surgical Medical Research Center (CIMEQ) from May 2014 to January 2016. Outcomes in patient safety culture were collected from 18 surgical professionals, we used the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, adapted to Spanish. Positive and negative answers to 50 items and the overall safety score were analyzed. Frequency distributions were estimated, with a confidence interval at 95 percent.

Result:

95 percent of the interviewees rated the overall degree of safety as positive. Strengths include teamwork within the surgical room, organizational learning, and the expectations and actions of the unit's management. As opportunities for improvement, the non-punitive response to errors, and feedback and error communication, were identified.

Conclusions:

The use of this tool facilitates the efficient dissemination of patient safety culture in the surgical room, as well as the identification of the strengths and weaknesses in the area(AU)
