Avaliação dos hábitos de higiene e satisfação de idosos institucionalizados usuários de próteses removíveis / Assessment of the hygiene and satisfaction of elderly institutionalized users of removable prostheses

RESUMO

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os hábitos de higiene bucal e o grau de satisfação de idosos usuários de próteses removíveis residentes de quatro Instituições de Longa Permanência. Foram aplicados questionários para idosos (n=33) de ambos os gêneros, diferentes etnias e graus de escolaridade que faziam o uso de próteses do tipo removível em apenas um ou ambos os arcos. A análise dos dados foi realizada por meio do teste qui-quadrado com nível de confiança de 95%. Não houve relação estatisticamente significativa (p>0,05) entre o perfil socioeconômico, tipo de prótese, perdas dentárias e o grau de satisfação das mesmas, porém, houve significância estatística entre a relação de indivíduos satisfeitos e insatisfeitos com o fato de higienizar a prótese (p=0,010). Ocorreu o predomínio de indivíduos do sexo feminino de 70 a 80 anos, ensino fundamental incompleto e usuários de prótese do tipo total. As causas mais comuns de perda dentária foram a cárie e a doença periodontal. Verificou-se a prevalência do uso da escova e creme dental e da utilização da mesma escova para higienizar os dentes e a prótese. Pôde-se concluir que apesar a realização ou não da higienização da cavidade bucal e da prótese reflete diretamente no grau de satisfação dos idosos institucionalizados(AU)

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate the oral hygiene habits and degree of satisfaction of the elderly users of removable dentures resident in four Long Stay Institutions. Questionnaires were applied to the elderly (n = 33) of both genders, different ethnicities and degrees of schooling that made use of removable type dentures in only one or both arches. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test with a confidence level of 95%. There was no statistically significant (p> 0.05) relationship between the socioeconomic profile, type of prosthesis, dental losses and degree of prosthesis satisfaction, but there was statistical significance between the ratio of satisfied and dissatisfied individuals to prosthesis hygiene (p=0.010). The predominance of female subjects from 70 to 80 years old, incomplete primary education and users of prostheses of the total type occurred. The most common causes of tooth loss were caries and periodontal disease. The prevalence of toothbrushing and toothpaste and the use of the same toothbrush to sanitize the teeth and the prosthesis were verified. It was concluded that despite the execution the hygiene of the oral cavity and the prosthesis or not it reflect the degree of satisfaction of the institutionalized elderly(AU)
