Características psicoafectivas y sobrecarga de los cuidadores informales de pacientes oncológicos terminales en Montería, Colombia / Psychoaffective characteristics and overload of informal caregivers of terminal cancer patients in Monteria, Colombia

RESUMEN

Introducción: El tratamiento del cáncer es una tarea integral en la que es muy importante que las instituciones encargadas de implementar las políticas públicas se sientan comprometidas. Objetivo: Analizar las características psicoafectivas y los niveles de sobrecarga en cuidadores informales de pacientes oncológicos terminales de Montería, Colombia. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, transversal que contó con la participación de 50 cuidadores familiares, a quienes se les aplicó encuestas para la obtención del perfil sociodemográfico y la identificación de las características psicoafectivas, y la Escala de Zarit para evaluar el nivel de sobrecarga. Los resultados se procesaron con la ayuda de la estadística descriptiva no paramétrica. Resultados: El estudio identificó altos niveles de sobrecarga intensa (74 por ciento) fruto de la inexperiencia para ejercer el cuidado, ausencia de programas de salud incluyentes y grupos de apoyo que minimicen el impacto emocional, también se identificó una relación significativa entre el tiempo de cuidado y la sobrecarga. Conclusiónes: El exceso de responsabilidades, la falta de acompañamiento de las instituciones de salud, la ineficacia de las políticas públicas que excluyen al cuidador y la soledad en la que los cuidadores familiares realizan su trabajo incide en la salud mental y generan sobrecarga al cuidador(AU)

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The treatment of cancer is an integral task in which it is very important that the institutions responsible for implementing public policies feel committed. Objective: To analyze the psycoaffective characteristics and the overload levels in informal caregivers of terminal cancer patients of Monteria, Colombia. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study with the participation of 50 family caregivers to whom were applied surveys to obtain the socio-demographic profile and the identification of the psycoaffective features, and it was used the Zarit´s Scale to assess the overload level. The results were processed with the help of the non-parametric descriptive statistics. Results: The study identified high levels of intense overload (74 percent) as a result of the inexperience to exercise the care, absence of inclusive health programs and support groups that minimize the emotional impact; it was also identified a significant relationship between the care time and the overload. Conclusions: The excess of responsibilities, the lack of accompaniment by the health institutions, the inefficiency of public policies that exclude the caregiver and the loneliness in which family caregivers do their work affect their mental health and generate overload to them(AU)
