A Saúde Mental do Estudante Universitário: Sua história ao longo do século XX / The Mental Health of University Students: A 20th Century History

RESUMO

Resumo: A preocupação com as questões relativas ao bem-estar emocional e à saúde mental do estudante universitário, particularmente com o estudante de Medicina, tem sido constante desde o início deste século. Nesta revisão histórico-bibliográfica (1902-1994), foram encontradas referências tanto na literatura européia, com predomínio de artigos originários da França e da Inglaterra, como no continente americano, sendo a grande maioria dos trabalhos publicados provenientes dos Estados Unidos. No Brasil, as primeiras descrições são da década de 50, aumentando consideravelmente após 1975. Os trabalhos aqui selecionados apontam as diferentes tendências metodológicas utilizadas para as investigações e análises de pesquisas nesta área, possibilitando uma visão abrangente da problemática em questão.

ABSTRACT

Abstract: The emotional well being and mental health of university students, specially those from medical schools. Has been a constant concern throughout this century. This historical-bibliographical review (1902-1994), has found references in literature both from Europe, mostly from France and England, and from the American continent, the great majority from the United States. In Brazil, the first descriptions date from the early fifties, with numbers increasing considerably after 1975. The articles selected here point up the different methodological procedures used in surveys and research analyses in this field, thus affording a comprehensive view of approaches to metal health problems among college students.
