ABSTRACT
This study identified the prevalence of skin lesions in amateur boxers. Cross-sectional survey with interviews to obtain personal data, physical training routine, anthropometric measurements and skin evaluations. Data analyzed by Fisher's exact test and chi-square, p <0.05. 51 boxing athletes (34 men) participated, with an average age of 25.61 years. The reason for the practice was socialization and leisure (73.3%), reducing or maintaining weight (40%) and participating in competitions (16.6%). Chronic (27.5%) and acute (23.5%) skin lesions were found in both sexes, mainly located in the upper limbs. Hematomas (17.6%), blisters (19.6%) and calluses (37.3%) predominated. Women (31.3%) were more likely to break fingernails than men (3.7%) (p <0.05). The duration of daily training was significant for chronic injuries (p = 0.004). In this sample there was a low incidence of wounds and infectious lesions and the most prevalent disorders in the boxing practitioners were calluses located on the right hand associated the longer training
