RESUMEN

Según se detalla en un artículo publicado en JAMA hace dos años, la reacción inflamatoria tuvo sus orígenes en un estudio para diferenciar la disentería amebiana de la bacilar en pacientes egipcios . Dicho estudio fue publicado en el año 1918 y luego el uso de la reacción inflamatoria se generalizó; sin embargo el detalle de las descripciones de los leucocitos y los tiempos de procesamiento de las muestras del estudio original no concuerdan con la forma en que actualmente se realiza y reporta los resultados de este examen . Además, en el mismo artículo se señala que las guías americanas recientes no recomiendan el uso de esta prueba y se hace un llamado para que se deje de usar

ABSTRACT

As detailed in an article published in JAMA two years ago, the inflammatory reaction had its origins in a study to differentiate amoebic from bacillary dysentery in Egyptian patients. This study was published in 1918 and then the use of the inflammatory reaction became general; however, the detail of the descriptions of the leukocytes and the processing times of the samples of the original study do not agree with the way in which the results of this examination are currently performed and reported. In addition, in the same article it is pointed out that recent American guidelines do not recommend the use of this test and calls for it to be discontinued.
