RESUMO

A hipotermia terapêutica surgiu como uma opção ao atendimento do paciente após um evento de parada cardíaca. As estratégias farmacológicas associadas à terapia da hipotermia mostraram-se promissoras. A evolução ocorreu de tal forma que a "American Heart Association" incluiu em suas diretrizes que a hipotermia deveria ser instituída em pacientes pós-parada (classe I). Após dois anos de estudos, iniciamos os primeiros casos de hipotermia terapêutica utilizando os métodos de superfície e de soro gelado administrado por via endovenosa

ABSTRACT

The therapeutic hypothermia appears like an option to managing the patient after cardiac arrest. The pharmacologic strategies associated with therapeutic hypothermia have been promising. The evolution happened in such a way the American Heart Association recommended in his guidelines the inclusion of hypothermia in patients after return of spontaneous circulation (class I). After studying two years, we began the first cases of therapeutic hypothermia using surface cooling with ice packs and cool intravascular fluid
