ABSTRACT
The aim of this research was to establish significant differences in the performance of cognitive skills in 60 people with and without arterial hypertension between 50 and 60 years of age in the commune of Chillán, using the Cognitive Linguistic Quick Test, CLQT, which allows identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the five cognitive domains. The research methodology used presented a quantitative approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design and a descriptive- comparative and correlational scope. Based on the results, it was possible to establish that there are statistically significant differences between the groups, specifically in the cognitive skills of memory, language and the total CLQT score. However, no statistical correlation could be established between the time of diagnosis and the degree of hypertention. Finally, it is concluded that arterial hypertension significantly influences the cognitive performance of people suffering from this pathology.
