RESUMO

Trata-se de uma revisão da literatura que objetivou relatar a importância do aleitamento materno exclusivo nos primeiros seis meses de vida para a promoção da saúde da mãe e bebê. Foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico através de bancos de dados dos sites Bireme, Lilacs, Scielo e Medline dos últimos 19 anos. Verificou-se que aleitamento materno é muito importante para saúde da mãe e do bebê, muitas são as causas que conduzem ao abandono do aleitamento materno, dentre elas a ausência de informações das mães sobre a Importância da amamentação, fatores socioeconômicos, demográficos dentre outros. Sendo assim, o estudo mostrou que o desmame ainda é uma realidade negativa ressaltada pela literatura e, por isso, leva à necessidade de se intensificar ações governamentais de incentivo a promoção ao aleitamento materno no sentido de esclarecer melhor sobre a importância do aleitamento

ABSTRACT

This review of the literature aimed reporting the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in the first six months of life for the promotion of the health of mother and baby. Was performed bibliographic survey through databases of Bireme, Lilacs, Scielo and Medline websites from the last 19 years. It was found that breastfeeding is very important for the health of mother and baby, many are the causes that lead to the abandonment of breastfeeding, including the lack of information from mothers about the importance of breastfeeding, socioeconomic factors, demographics among others. Thus, the study showed that weaning is still a negative reality highlighted by the literature and, therefore, leads to the need to intensify governmental actions to encourage breastfeeding promotion in order to better clarify the importance of breastfeeding
