ABSTRACT
The Brazilian female prison population is subjected to precarious conditions of reclusion that affect the guarantee of the right to adequate food and respect for human dignity. However, research on this topic is still scarce in Brazil. The objective was to evaluate behavior and eating habits of women deprived of liberty under the perspective of the human right to adequate food, in addition to investigating the changes that occurred in food throughout incarceration and characterizing the sociodemographic profile of this population. For data analysis, the content analysis method was used. Nine women participated in the study, characterizing a young sociodemographic profile, non-white, with a low level of education and family income, who have been serving their sentence for less than four years. The study showed the supply of 4 meals a day consisting of a low sensory and nutritional quality feeding, monotonous and with little variety of food and nutrients, with failures in the preparation and hygiene care in the production of meals being reported, describing the feeding received as inferior to that kept prior to prison.
