Mulheres cuidadoras em ambiente familiar: a internalização da ética do cuidado / Women caregivers in the family environment: internalization of care ethics

RESUMO

Resumo Introdução Este artigo aborda o cuidado exercido por mulheres em ambiente familiar, consideradas as responsáveis pelo cuidado de alimentar, higienizar e medicar um familiar. O cuidado é exercido em longas jornadas, por mulheres que cuidam dos maridos, dos pais, irmãos e avós, sem ter vínculo empregatício ou receber remuneração para tal. Objetivo Analisar como essas mulheres externam o sentimento do processo de cuidar do outro, buscando no relato da história de vida de cada uma apreender suas percepções sobre o processo do cuidar, as subjetividades e os sentimentos advindos dessa relação. Método Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória, realizada por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas de caráter autobiográfico, com 18 mulheres que são as cuidadoras principais de um familiar doente ou dependente de cuidados. Os resultados foram analisados na perspectiva da ética do cuidado. Resultados As participantes expressam sua dedicação pelo cuidado do outro, naturalizam a gestão do cuidado e sentem-se responsáveis pela vida do outro. Demonstram sentimentos de resignação, obrigação, impotência, conformismo e reclamam da falta de apoio para ter uma vida digna. Conclusão O cuidado exercido pelas mulheres em ambiente familiar é um trabalho invisível, pois não é reconhecido socialmente.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background This article discusses care in a familiar environment, by women, that are considered responsible for the care of feeding, sanitizing, and medicating a family member. The care is exercised in long journeys by women caring for husbands, parents, siblings, and grandparents, without having employment or receiving remuneration. Objective To analyze how they expose their feelings about the process of caring for the other. Method This is a qualitative and exploratory research conducted with semi-structured interviews of autobiographical characters with 18 women that are the main caregivers of a sick or a dependent family member. It was sought in the report of the life story of each woman apprehending their perceptions about the process of caring, the subjectivities, and feelings arising from this relationship. The care exercised in a family environment is not recognized, thus being an invisible work. The results are analyzed from the perspective of the ethics of care. Results The participants express their dedication to the care of others naturalizing the management of caring, and feeling responsible for the life of others. They demonstrate feelings of resignation, obligation, impotence, and conformism. They complain about the lack of support for a dignified life. Conclusion The care exercised by women in a family environment is invisible work because it is not socially recognized.
