RESUMEN

La infección neonatal por virus herpes simple es una enfermedad seria con significativa mortalidad y morbilidad, dado que puede causar enfermedad diseminada, afectar el sistema nervioso central o causar el َbito. La infecciَn es adquirida durante el perيodo intrauterino,el periparto o posnatalmente. En el recién nacido puede aparecer en distintas etapas de la vida, siendo congénita, perinatal o posnatal, con signos y sيntomas que varيan desde cuadros localizados en la piel y las mucosas hasta casos con compromiso sistémico y neurolَgico.El diagnَstico se sospecha por la clيnica y se confirma con exلmenes de laboratorio.El tratamiento consiste en antivirales sistémicos y debe iniciarse precozmente. El conocimiento de esta entidad es importante por las implicancias preventivas, pronَsticas y terapéuticas que tiene el diagnَstico temprano para instaurar el tratamiento adecuado con el fin de evitar secuelas.

ABSTRACT

Neonatal herpes simplex virus infection is a serious illness with significant mortality and morbiditythat may cause disseminated disease, central nervous system compromise or befatal. The infection is acquired during one of three time periods in utero, peripartum or postnatal.In the newborn it can manifest at different times congenital, perinatal or postnatal; varyingit signs and symptoms from disease limited to the skin and mucosae to cases with systemic and neurological affection.Diagnosis is suspected by clinical presentation and confirmedwith laboratory tests.Indicated treatment is parentalantiviral drugs and should be started at an early stage. The knowledge of this entity is important because of the preventive, prognostic and therapeutic implications of an early diagnosis, helping to establish the treatment with the purpose of avoiding permanent disabilities.
