ABSTRACT
The capacity of jump and anthropometric characteristics can determine the possible game position of a volleyball player in the field. There are various types of jumps in a volleyball game, being the block one of the most important. The aim of this study isto evaluate the capacity of jump through a “jump platform” and the body composition through anthropometric evaluations to 11 volleyball players (of different game positions) that are part of the PUCV volleyball team, in order to determine relations among variables. The results obtained indicate that within 11 sportsman, the middle blockers are the ones with the higher jump capacity and a lower percent of adipose mass, on the other hand, the setters are the ones who obtained the lowest capacity of jump and the highest percent of adipose mass. Comparing PUCV sportsmen with profesional volleyball players, it can observe significant differences. This is because of the amateurism of volleyball in the University. It is difficult to compare sportsmen from PUCV with professionals because they are completely different. It must emphasize that the jumping variables and body composition can determine a volleyball player in a specific game position.
