Ética do cuidado e envelhecimento / The ethics of care and aging

RESUMO

O crescente número de idosos na população, conjuntamente com a diminuição da fertilidade, levou o Brasil a um cenário de transformação demográfica e epidemiológica. Com as peculiaridades dos idosos, como as plurimorbidades e as incapacidades com restrição, muitas vezes, da sua autonomia, emerge a necessidade de um novo olhar ético, do qual a ética do cuidado parece ser uma perspectiva de abordagem adequada a esses indivíduos. Neste contexto, as autoras apresentam uma revisão da literatura (através de artigos, livros, diretrizes governamentais e base de dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística – IBGE) sobre a ética do cuidado e o envelhecimento, resgatando uma análise do processo de envelhecimento, do indivíduo idoso e das suas necessidades.

ABSTRACT

The growing number of elderly in the population, together with the declining fertility, has led Brazil to a scenario of demographic and epidemiological change. From the peculiarities of the elderly, such as multimorbidities and the disabilities often restricting their autonomy, there emerges the need for a new ethical view, of which the ethics of care seems to be an appropriate approach to those individuals. In this context, the authors present a literature review (through articles, books, government guidelines and database of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE) on the ethics of care and aging, reconsidering an analysis of the aging process, the elderly individuals and their needs.
