Avaliação das estruturas faciais pré e pós-disjunção maxilar por meio de tomografia computadorizada / CT evaluation of facial structures before and after rapid maxilary expansion

RESUMO

A atresia da maxila é uma alteração esquelética caracterizada pela deficiência transversal do arco superior, de alta incidência, que necessita de intervenção o mais precoce possível, podendo estar associado a problemas respiratórios. Este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar as alterações morfológicas de estruturas faciais, em pacientes respiradores bucais pré e pós-disjunção maxilar, por meio de tomografia computadorizada helicoidal ou Fan-beam TCFB. As estruturas avaliadas estão diretamente relacionadas aos benefícios respiratórios promovidos pela disjunção maxilar. A disjunção maxilar avaliada por meio de TC mostrou resultados ortopédicos significativos com alargamento de cavidade nasal nesses pacientes respiradores orais que tem relação direta com o aumento da capacidade respiratória e melhora na qualidade de vida.

ABSTRACT

The maxillary atresia is a skeletal disorder characterized by transverse deficiency of the upper arch, with high incidence, requiring the earliest possible intervention, and may be associated with respiratory problems. This study aims to evaluate the morphological changes of facial structures in mouth breathers pre and post maxillary expansion by means of helical and Fan-beam TCFB computerized tomography. The assessed structures are directly related to the respiratory benefits promoted by rapid maxillary expansion. The maxillary expansion assessed by CT showed significant orthopedic results with enlargement of the nasal cavity in these mouth breathers patients and it is directly related to the increase in respiratory capacity and improved quality of life
